DreamWorks Animation & Hasbro In Merger Talks?

A bit of interesting speculation is surfacing that revolves around supposed talks between Hasbro and DreamWorks Animation, a division of DreamWorks Studios. According to one article that has surfaced on Deadline, Deadline reports that "DreamWorks Animation is deeply engaged in two potentially game changing negotiations that could transform the company — including one with Hasbro to forge a family entertainment powerhouse to be called DreamWorks-Hasbro." The report claims that this deal is at least 60 days off, if it even happens, while both companies are not commenting on the matter and dismissing as rumor and speculation. You can read the full article here for more details.

You may recall that DreamWorks was involved in the production and distribution of the live action films Transformers (2007) and Revenge of the Fallen, while being somewhat involved in a lesser role with Dark of the Moon. It's not totally inconceivable that these two companies could potentially be in business discussions.

The biggest question circling around this rumor for now: what does this mean exactly? Is this Hasbro shifting away from physical toys and moving towards more entertainment routes? Will there now be more opportunities for Transformers toys? Are Transformers animation films now more plausible?

Disney should buy Hasbro.

I've heard about Hasbro potentially being bought for years, but I was PRAYING Disney would scoop them up because when last I read, HASBRO still owned the rights to

It's been my hope for YEARS Marvel would eventually get the rights back but I don't ever think they're gonna. I'd feel sick to my stomach if one day the only choice I'd have to see him realized onscreen would be through the eyes of Michael Bay and another film studio.

Smart move. Dreamworks could do with some decent franchises to keep up with Pixar now that Disney have half of pop culture under their belts.

Hasbro owns most of the popular board games--there could be some very interesting animated movies based on board games. They could build an entire animated universe with properties like Candy Land, Clue, Dungeons and Dragons, LIFE, Magic: The Gathering, Monopoly, Risk and more. Plus they have big franchise potential with toy properties like Furby, G.I. Joe, My Little Pony, Play-Doh and Transformers. Combine that with DreamWorks' existing properties like Shrek, Madagascar, Kung-Fu Panda, How To Train Your Dragon, and you have a wide gamut of toys and animated films, with properties for kids as well as ones that can appeal to adults and use nostalgia as a big selling point.

I want Marvel to get back Rom and the Micronauts back. After that Hasbro can do whatever.

@ PeterDarker121

Actually I think it's Parker Bother's who own ROM.
