Joaquin Phoenix to Join Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?

The "retired" actor and wanna-be rapper seems to be eying a role in the upcoming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter film alongside Benjamin Walker.

It is being reported at Deadline that Joaquin Phoenix is looking to come out of "retirement" to co-star in the upcoming Timur Bekmambetov-directed big screen version of Seth Grahame-Smith's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Joaquin Phoenix is the front-runner to play the mentor who teaches the 16th President how to kill bloodsuckers in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter for 20th Century Fox. Phoenix has met on the project and I'm told that it's his if he wants it.

The role would be Henry, a mythical, ageless character who guides the young Lincoln, turning him into an axe-wielding vampire killer.

If this casting indeed comes to fruition, it could be a promising sign for the talent, yet eclectic actor. If you'll remember a while back, Phoenix took a hiatus to become a "rapper," drastically changing his looks and his demeanor, causing many to question his sanity. He went on to star in the "mock-umentary, " I'm Still Here which was directed by Casey Affleck. No doubt Phoenix would be a great addition to the cast, as he has no shortage of talent and his past roles have proven that.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is being directed by Timur Bekmambetov and will be produced by Tim Burton. Joaquin Phoenix would be joining the recently announced Benjamin Walker should he accept.

His eccentric attitude and his decision to become a rapper was all fake, for the movie I'm Still Here. So in no way did he ever retire, he was just playing his character in the mockumentary until the movie was released.

Nowhere did I say he was insane. Joaquin has always been very eclectic in his personal life. Yes, I know that was all an act.

ecksman, if you know, then your headline should not say wanna-be rapper. negative connotation.

More bang for his headline, if it happened even in a fictional basis the editors here will draw it up as substance for their articles. Also he WAS a rapper, so I dont get the "wanna be" part if he can slap an old "mission accomplished" stamp on that.

Common sense isnt so common kids.

Im still here and the concept behind it was brilliant film making... Sorry it wasnt a film with Jason Statham where his only dialogue is punching and a makeout scene 3/4 through the movie, idiot.

Also, this movie will be absolute shit. Im content waiting until late 2012 when Daniel Day-Lewis plays Lincoln while directed by Spielburg

It's shocking that there are still people who think he really did quit acting and try to become a hobo-rapper! It was all a stunt for a movie!! He's an amazing actor, easily the best part of Gladiator which is great in itself!

So obviously most of you didnt find out the whole thing was a hoax. Joaquin makes it quite clear that its a hoax in many interviews including a revisit to letterman. The films was so out there that its too good to be true. There is an interview on the dvd with him and the original interviewer, the one he broke the retirement news to, and its funny to watch. joaquin acts completely normal, how you would expect him to be. The interviewer describes how he knew something was up because casey afflec kept smiling and then he noticed joaquins film crew creeping.

anyway that being said, i look forward to seeing him in many more roles and am definitely happy it was all fake :D

I'll say straight-up, I had no idea it was a hoax. I saw that original Letterman interview the night it aired and I was like, "Wow, this dude is on some serious drugs...for realz." One things for sure, I'll be watching I'm Still Here tonight.

"I'm Still Here" was a joke remember, the whole "becoming a rapper" thing was a hoax, a pretty good one too because it [frick]ed up his career.

[frick]ed up his career? Pretty sure hes still getting work and is being offered some high profile roles. Try not to talk out your ass for the sake of saying something there ror--errrrr---ryden.

Pheonix is a great actor. If he's a part of this makes me more excited. I like the idea of this movie I just hope they don't get to crazy with the look of the Vampires. I'm hoping for something between Van Helsing and Interview with the Vampire

Okay, people on here really need to read the book before saying Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a shit idea. The book is written wonderfully and the idea is supposed to be ridiculous.
Don't bash what you don't know about.

And Phoenix would be great for it! He's a great talent.
