Mark Millar Teases The Production Of More Millarworld And Fox Comic Book Movies

Mark Millar, comic book writer and 20th Century Fox's creative consultant for all of their upcoming releases, has revealed that four or five Millarworld adaptations will begin production next year and lets slip the fact that Fox have been talking with two directors for more Marvel movies.

In a Christmas message to users of his Millarworld Forums, Mark Millar has let slip some very interesting details about what we should expect when it comes to both the adaptations of his creator owned properties AND Fox's plans for more Marvel movies. The fact that The Secret Service is still being planned for a 2013 shoot doesn't necessarily take director Matthew Vaughn out of the running for Star Wars Episode VII as there's nothing to say he couldn't get to work on that immediately after. As for what the other movies Fox may be planning are, well, your guess is as good as mine at this point! Be sure to click on the link below to read the statement in full.

As you know, Hit-Girl and the Kick-Ass 2 graphic novel fuse together into the screenplay for Kick-Ass 2 (out next June) and Secret Service is already deep underway for a 2013 shoot. I thought we had THREE Millarworld movies shooting next year, but it's now four and possibly five, most of which will be released in 2014. That means a lot of hoofing around on sets next year, but the bulk of my upcoming output has been written in the past twelve months and everything is looking pretty sweet, schedule-wise. We're launching 4 new titles in 2013 plus Kick-Ass 3 and I hereby solemnly swear to give you all the details in a big New Year interview on CBR in January.

Of course, one of the biggest things to happen this year was the job at Fox, overseeing all the Marvel movies. Working with Mangold, Trank and Singer is very exciting, but we're already making plans for 2014 and beyond and there's two further directors we've been having discussions with in recent weeks too. Again, all this stuff will start to unfold very soon, but if you want to feel a bit jealous I'll just share that Jim's going to show me a cut of The Wolverine in January and Jeff will have the first cut of Kick-Ass 2 ready by february. Enormously, enormously exciting and as a Scotsman I will happily report that I see both movies for free.

Cool. But is he stretching himself a bit too thin?

Keep Vaughn away from STAR WARS, unless you just want him to drop out halfway through the production anyway.

And if they get the X-Men franchise? Just... no. Who's gonna be Wolverine, Tim Allen? And don't think that just because MCU Phase One was awesome that Phase Two will be. Disney pretty much stayed out of everything except for Cap and Avengers. Avengers was Joss which gives it immunity to anything and everything that might prove detrimental and Cap was a little below par and a bit more kid-friendly.

Marvel87@ Yeah, that was kinda uncalled for, I suppose. The Lucasfilm deal was just made official. That's what that was.

if disney can afford to buy lucasfilm,i don't think the fantastic four or x-men rights would be any dearer than that.

As far as X-Men movies go, Since that's not leaving FOX(not anytime soon), I would prefer if they rebooted the franchise. No, X-Men: FC was NOT a reboot. Also, more comics writers consulting on this. That would make me feel better.

Days of future past is gonna be EPIC, and of course much better than Thor, Captain America, Ironman 2 and probably many more comicbookmovies to date.

Remark my words.

And F4 reboot will probably surprise many haters too. Lets wait for casting announcements, and then we'll have a better idea, I guess.

Fox HAS changed. And Tom Rottman is leaving at the end of this month, so we are on a whole new era for Fox comic movies. and with Millar and Singer on board, they will have more creative freedom and at the same time, more budget. So lets get ready for the best x-men movie to date.

@gambgel I liked First Class but I wouldn't be quick to say FOX has changed. That's not enough to give faith back in FOX. So yea....

@Intruder

"What does FOX have for a solo franchise?" How about....

X-Men,Deadpool,New Mutants,Cable,Wolverine,X-Factor,X-Force,Emma Frost,Fantastic Four,SIlver Surfer,Starjammers.All films I would rather see then Antman and GOTG.

I will never be excited for another FOX Marvel movie ever again; wait for Disney to put out a couple Star Wars films and they will more than have the cash to buy back the remaining superheroes properties.

'Truder@ I've always thought of Emma Frost and tentpole to be synonymous. But that's a whole other matter.

I just want an X-Men film in vein as FC but give me the real team or the late 80's-90's line up (NIghtCrawler!!!) Give me Apocalypse Sinister SOME ONE beside Mag's And Arch Angle is a must for me. But I have no faith in any of that from FOX.

What other big names do marvel have? The xmen and spiderman have been their money makers. rdj is the only thing holding the avengers together. Once his contract is up, watch how quickly things go down hill. Ironman is the biggest draw of all those movies becuz of rdj. The xmen movies are horrible but they always make money. Thats why fox will never stop making xmen movies.

If FOX has more comic book movies planned, I hope they show more respect for these characters.

@blkyank You would rather see a solo Emma Frost movie over Ant-Man and GOTG?

Ant-Man is a great character with an interesting hook. And GOTG has so much potential to be epic on the big screen.

And I'm all for doing more solo female superhero movies(well done ones), but a movie cannot be built entirely around her. It wouldn't work.

Better choices would be:

-Psylocke
-Jean Grey
-Rogue
-Mystique
-Domino

I'd love to know how any of you truly know who owns what?? AcidicHeart...ur up...

@AcidicHeart

Would you consider Deadpool as solely part of the X-Men property or something that could stand on its own?

I see Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as a means to cross over the Disney and Fox Marvel cinematic universes because neither studio can make good use of those characters without the partsowned by the other studio. Example.Disney could use them but can't use the fact they are mutants,are children of Magneto and former members of the Brotherhood of evil mutants. Fox can't use the fact they both are current Avengers.

DIsney and Fox should agree on a common version of those characters they can have appear in each others studio films. You don't have to show Magneto in an Avengers film just have Cap or Fury talk about how their father is a terrorist.
You don't need Ironman in an X-Men flick,just have Mystique talk about them as selling out to the government.

@mgeoff88

Your female choices are better and I could go for any of them over an Antman movie.

Intruder, what are you talking about all Fox has is The X-Men? The X-Men are probably as big as the rest of the Marvel Universe put together....and arguably the better half too!
WarnerBrother
WarnerBrother - 12/21/2012, 10:29 PM
I think Mark Millar really gets it.Sure,in a perfect world Fox would give back its Marvel properties for a one time payoff by Disney but the reality is that The Avengers have raised the value of all comicbook franchises.

Taking Millar at his word when it comes to future film planning means that the X-Men and FF will stay with Fox well into the next decade so the best we should hope for is that Fox along with Sony will work to mesh their films with Disney's.
