Michael B. Jordan is the Human Torch for the same reason Steve Harvey is hosting Family Feud.

Its because Family Feud was formerly the whitest television program in existence.

Okay. Now that its up in the air, let me explain. All of Family Feud's previous hosts were white, and most of the families on the show were, in fact, white families. Your average family that would actually watch Family Feud in real life probably looked something like this.

Their bodies were found buried in the backyard. The father is nowhere to be found.

By giving us Steve Harvey, the program successfully A) Gave us a fun and charismatic host that liven things up and B) Made the show more appealing to the average minority family.

Now, lets look at the Fantastic Four. Sure, to your average comic book fan, Marvel's First Family is a classic and endearing team of superheroes. However, to everyone else, the Fantastic Four might as well be this family.

So, by giving us a Human Torch who is a cool black guy, Fox has successfully A) Given us a great and charismatic actor to liven up the franchise and B) Made the movie more appealing to your average minority family.

Fox addressed the whiteness of the Fantastic Four in a much more subtle way for the earlier films: they got Tim Story (Barbershop, Think Like A Man, other black comedies) to direct.

I liked the first two films. Felt a bit let down by the Galactus cloud deal and think it could have been handled better (My thoughts were that Galactus lived inside the cloud)But I think the reasons for the change in colour, the change in age and direction is for a few easy reasons -

1 Johnny Storm as a Black man is so that they can diversify the cast. If I remember when the first film came out certain groups moaned about it being an all white cast (apparently Jessica wasn't black enough).

2 They've gone with a younger cast because they can get cheaper contracts and a longer film series. If they had guys in their late thirty/forties, they would get maybe two three films at most (Even though after 3 they seem to like to reboot the films)

3 The new direction scares me. They're making the films more character driven and while I get that, I think the way they treated the characters in the first two films, the jokes etc. was better than making them young but gritty.

One final note - People complaining that the original two films were to kiddish for adults is a fair complaint but I think if they take the films to a gritty place its a mistake. I want a comic book film that isn't gritty and dark. Give me a fun loving spiderman over a dark and brooding Spider-batman.

I read the title and was like wtf, what a crazy premise. Now that I've read the article I can't believe I actually agree with what you're getting at.

This movie will fail. Marvel really needs to get the rights back to give this movie a proper film.

I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish with this. Reassure people? Non-reassure people?

Does there have to be some 'specific agenda' behind this?

For the white people out there that don't know who Steve Harvey is, he's practically the equivalent to god in the black community.

I never liked Steve Harvey.

Louie Anderson was my favorite host.
