Sony And Paramount Studios Might Merge!!

Sony And Paramount Studios Might Merge!!

This is two day old news, I know. But has anyone realized the possibilities that this merger brings to the Comic Book Movie Universe for Marvel?

This is what the good people over at Latino Review had to report about the merger:

"Viacom Inc's Paramount Pictures could merge with Sony Pictures, Universal Studios or another movie studio amid a wave of consolidation in the industry over the next few months, veteran investor Mario Gabelli said in the latest issue of Barron's.
The chief executive of Gamco Investors Inc, who owns shares of Viacom ( VIA - news - people ), said he expects dealmaking among movie studios as they seek to cut costs.

'Today there are seven or eight motion-picture studios. A round of consolidation will occur in the next six to 12 months because of the costs of financing, prints and advertising, the benefits of globalization and such,' Gabelli said. 'We hear talk of something going on."

This is awesome news!!! If this merger happens then that means that Spider-Man could swing in and kick Tony Stark in the mouth. Or Spidey could help The Avengers with a little green problem they like to call The Hulk. The point is if this merger happens then we could be seeing a lot of crossovers in our movies just like we did with our comic books.

Its really to bad Fox wont merge with any one(or is it no one wants to merge with Fox?). Then we could have our long awaited solid X-Men movie. Regardless merger or no merger, the message has been sent to Fox and they have read it: Jman states "The fans overall are not happy with the movies you are putting out there, you pleased the kids with Wolverine but the grown ups are left wondering what happened to 90 percent of the source material?" With that being said I am willing to give Fox one more chance. They know what they have to do to make Deadpool successful and they have the time to do it. If they botch this movie then all my faith in Fox studio's will be gone.

Seems like a good time for Marvel to just buy back the rights to some of their franchises. Unfortunately, it seems like all the really bad ones are with Fox.

I'd love to see the movies crossover just like the comics do. It would really suprise non comic book readers who see the movies too. Most of them dont know these characters exist in the same universe.

Well if I had to put my money on it I would say NO ONE wants to merge with Fox, they are like the kid on the playground that chases everyone away cause he hasn't had a bath in days!
Shaman

Yes but that's normaly the parents fault. In this case, Fox deliberately doesn't bathe.

Sweet! Marvel will be able to make films featuring all of its characters, except for:

Daredevil and any related characters(Bloody Mary, Kingpin, Bullseye)

Fantastic Four and any related characers (including Namor Dr.Doom the Inhumans Skrulls Kree)

And any and all X-Men characters including(X-men, Cable, X-Force, Deadpool, any mutants like Scarlet Witch or Quicksilver, Sentinels, Bolivar Trask etc etc)

But still this is good news.

Man why cant they all jsut be owned by marvel. Especially spidey, the "king of the crossover" as I like to call him. In my perfect world, comics wouldnt exist, they would just make movies, 10000000 movies. But man im so upset about daredevil.... I hate my life.

I would much rather see some of my favorite characters on cable television than in movies. I mean some characters like Iron Man and Superman would be costly, but characters like Wolverine, Moon Knight , Batman, Green Arrow are just begging for there own adult themed cable series. Even Xmen. In this venue you can stay closer to the source material because they would be episodic just like comic books. I mean even Heroes and Smallville would be ten times better if they were on HBO.

the question is:

is sony merging with paramount,is paramount merging with sony,or are they merging with eachother?

should sony merge with paramount, good news.we'll really get to see those cross overs the marvel way.

if paramount merges with sony, bad news.we'll get to see all the characters messed around with.

should they merge together, then nothing really changes.we get some crap movies (more often),and we get some frame to frame pieces of heaven.
Shaman
Shaman - 6/17/2009, 1:31 PM
captain0vell- Weither Paramount merges with Sony or the other way around, Paramount only has distrubution rights. Not production rights. It still means that Marvel WILL NOT own production rights to Spider-man either way and Sony or Paramount WILL NOT own production rights to Avengers. The only thing this news ACTUALLY MEANS is that there could be cameo crossovers (but very unlikely because they'd have to share profits). Period.

I certainly share a keen enthusiasm for the possibilities that studio mergers could create. The idea of a crossover comic book movie is a very good one.
Avengers could pave the way and create a precedent. COULD that is, IF the movie turns out to be a winner.
Given the long list of past failures, that really is a big "if".
I am not being cynical. I am merely reserving judgement.
However I do posit this: we shant have to wait until 2012 to find out if the future will be filled with great crossovers.
It is my feeling that the relative success or failure of Thor and The First Avenger: Captain America will be more portentious than any of us can see at this time.
Just imagine how potential support for the comic film to end all comic films could diminish if one of the most important character's solo film from one year before is a horrid failure.
If for instance, hey fail to convey how incredibly powerful Thor is and then Thor fans loudly reject it, then it's unlikely they will then get behind another film that features the same misrepresented character.
A crossover movie of the etreme magnitude of The Avengers is an astronomical undertaking. It could pave the way... or be the end of the road.

Does these mean we can see the Avenger with good heros instead of the lameass first one all who are all dead

@Shaman

Spot on with your comments about the merger. Sadly the merger would not change things as far as Marvel being able to crossover with Spidey.

Alten- yeah... sucks.

LEEE- The only way Jason Lewis would be cap is if the "Pride" channel had the rights. At the very least Jensen has Fox LOL :P Who cares if his shield would be a salad bowl and he'd be wearing suspenders. He still has better chances LMFAO!!! :P

LEEE777: Jason Lewis is a male model from a Maltesers ad!!! The only role that he will have in Captain America is as "Random Soldier #4"!!! Hell, he may not be qualified enough for that role unless you count his role as a gay character in Sex in The City-thats very Cap-like! At least Jensen has experience at playing a Cap like role rather than just a modelling career, lol! Sorry, but I gotta disagre with you 100%!!!

I would love it if this was a good thing. It is a good thing for comic book films. It's just that it's hard enough getting one good film about one good character. And there might be too much borrowing from another character's universe.

I had a merger with Fox last night, she gave me a foot-hand job. ((shivers))
