THE LEGO MOVIE Sequel Will Feature More Female Characters

Though a lot of people enjoyed Wyldstyle's role in The Lego Movie, many have also been calling out for more female representation in the film's sequel. Well, writers/directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller agree, and have discussed including more women in the 2018 follow-up.

The issue of gender representation is a big talking point in the film industry at the moment, and The Lego Movie writer/directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will work to better represent female audiences in the sequel to the animated hit.  "I don't want to give spoilers but there will be more female characters and more female stuff," Miller revealed to BBC News, though he did not say what role they would play in the film's story. Lord chimed in:  "It's important to us that the movie plays broadly and that we inspire young women as much as we inspire young men." The first film was lead by Chris Pratt's Emmet Brickowski, with the "strong, independent" Wyldstyle (voiced by Elizabeth Banks) serving as a supporting character and Emmet's love interest. Lord explained that women will be more prominent in the second Lego Movie, and feels there's a positive change coming in terms of female involvement. "You can feel that the whole movie culture is now starting to wake up to the fact that half the audience are women. Frozen is reflective of that - and I think we are all going to find a great flourishing of women film makers and subject matter in the future." The Lego Movie sequel is currently slated for a 2018 release.

Movies suck when they focus more on the audience then the story.
