Alien: Covenant garnered mostly positive reviews from critics, but did not seem to connect with your average movie goer. The film is currently sitting at a 59% on the
Rotten Tomatoes' Audience Score, and the box-office was just as bad. The film
opened up to $36,160,621 domestically its first weekend, but took a steep 71% drop the second weekend. The movie currently sits at $232,312,741 worldwide against a 97 million dollar production budget, not including marketing.
These poor box-office numbers, coupled with audience reaction has made Fox rethink their strategy for the franchise. According to
The Hollywood Reporter, the two sequels that were part of Ridley Scott's pitch have been put on the back burner while Scott is off directing
All the Money in the World and
The Cartel, and Fox can assess how to best move forward.
Alien: Covenant will be release on digital download on August 1st, and blu-ray and DVD on August 15th.
