Fox To Reassess ALIEN: COVENANT Sequels Due To Under Performing Box-Office Numbers

Alien: Covenant debuted to a less than stellar box-office and a lukewarm reception from fans, and this has led to Fox taking their time in deciding where to take the franchise in the future.

Alien: Covenant garnered mostly positive reviews from critics, but did not seem to connect with your average movie goer. The film is currently sitting at a 59% on the Rotten Tomatoes' Audience Score, and the box-office was just as bad. The film opened up to $36,160,621 domestically its first weekend, but took a steep 71% drop the second weekend. The movie currently sits at $232,312,741 worldwide against a 97 million dollar production budget, not including marketing.

These poor box-office numbers, coupled with audience reaction has made Fox rethink their strategy for the franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two sequels that were part of Ridley Scott's pitch have been put on the back burner while Scott is off directing All the Money in the World and The Cartel, and Fox can assess how to best move forward.

Alien: Covenant will be release on digital download on August 1st, and blu-ray and DVD on August 15th.

That's too bad. Wasn't amazing by any means, but was better than Prometheus and scarier. Phenomenal performance by Fassbender, i'd like to see them continue the story.

Although....I want them to let Neil Blomkamp do his take, which sounded amazing.

@Menks123 - Everything up until David showed up was good, everything after was crap. They should have gave Blomkamp a try at it.

@Snotzo - I find Blomkamp to be a little overrated. He's had one hit in my eyes. Didn't like his last two. He could pull it off but could just as easily mess it up. Just don't think it's necessarily a slam dunk.

@Snotzo - Alien takes the backseat and David is the vilain

@Catmanlives - he needs to be reigned in on his ideas sometimes, he's a visual director to be sure. But all his movies are his own ideas, I'd like to see him on an already established property.

@Snotzo - Well I can't argue with that. I've found his last two frustrating specifically because of what you say. I see your point.

You think maybe its because no one gives a shit about where the Aliens come from?

@TheDarkPassenger - maybe. But shit I rly wanna know more about the engineers. And I want to see how David gets stopped

@TheDarkPassenger - I was actually rather intrigued about where they come from, and still am. My problem is Scott doesn't seem to care, or he is completely out of touch with where the fanbase is. I know it was really more of an easter egg, but it seems he really wanted to connect Prometheus with Blade Runner, and those franchises do not go hand in hand.

probably because people are tired of seeing the same movie made over and over.

If it was me, I would make Scott wrap up these prequels with one more movie, and while that is filming talk to Neill Blomkamp about his Alien Sequel and the possibility of doing a proper crossover with the Predator franchise.

Makes sense. It really wasn't that good. The characters were dumb and the movie didn't answer any of the questions Prometheus left us with.

I hate Fox so much right now.

My favorite movie is Aliens and my favorite comic is Fantastic Four. They keep sh***ing on both.

It's not like the Neil Blomkamp film would have been any less divisive, especially given his mixed track record as a filmmaker and how hyped up it was.
