The ALIEN Universe Will Expand In 2019 And Here Are The First Teasers

A series of six mysterious social media posts tease an expansion for the Alien franchise in 2019. Could it be related to the rumored TV show or video game? Or is it in reference to the upcoming comic?

Rumors and speculation surrounding new Alien projects have been whirling around for quite a long time now, but it appears the iconic sci-fi horror franchise will indeed expand in 2019.

Over the past week, the official social media accounts for Alien posted a series of teasers in the form of animated images. These were accompanied with intriguing captions for A 6-Part Dossier Exposing the Secret History of Weyland-Yutani. Anyone familiar with the franchise will immediately recognize the name this name, as it’s the multinational conglomerate behind much of the tech featured in the franchise.

Of course, The Company also exhibits the worst aspects of corporate profiteering and is largely responsible for the discovery, studying, and attempted weaponizing of the Xenomorphs. Throughout the franchise’s many stories told, Weyland-Yutani is often the background antagonist, showing very little regard to human life and even sacrificing its own human colonies to further their experiments.

The six teasers attempt to expose the dark history of Weyland-Yutani. Over a six-day period, an anonymous whistleblower details the experimentation of Xenomorphs. The dossier ends with the company unleashing the Xenomorph’s on one of its colonies, killing everyone.

Whether the expansion will come in the form of a new movie, the rumored television series, comics, video games, or some other medium remains to be seen, however. With Blomkamp's Alien sequel seemingly dead and Ridley Scott's vision for the future of the franchise in question, a new movie seems unlikely. But there have been rumors of a new TV series.

There's also talk of a new Alien video game. It was recently discovered that 20th Century Fox trademarked Alien: Blackout for use with computer game discs and software. Interestingly, three of the posts contain a hashtag for Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver). Amanda was featured as the lead character in 2013's video game Alien: Isolation and she's due to appear in the upcoming comic Alien: Resistance. It's possible these teasers could be related to the comic which is due out on January 23, 2019. The description of the first issue certainly seems to match perfectly with the captions.

Following the events of Alien: Isolation, Amanda Ripley is kept silent by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation about the xenomorph threat. Enter Zula Hendricks, an Ex-Colonial Marine, in need of Ripley's help to expose a sinister bio-weapons program. The duo teams up against an upgraded arsenal designed to keep the darkest atrocities secret!

I'd bet the farm on this being a promo for a 6 issue comic.

I think this is a pretty cool premise for a movie, but they'll probably make another one in the line of prometheus and covenant

@Lostcause - I agree. I wonder if this is Disney making the call to expand the Alien, Predator and Planet of the Apes universes and potentially Fox's other franchises like Kingsman, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ice Age, Independence Day, The Simpsons and the X-Files since the deal is almost done and closed according to Kevin Mayer. Makes me wonder if he was talking about the closing date of January 1st.

@brodie999 - No it is not Disney. Fox is "Business as usual." unit the US GOV allows the ink to dry on the contracts of sale. Scott planned a trilogy from the beginning of Prometheus. That is why we do not get a Blomkamp Alien film. Scott asked him to wait. The wait is too long for Blomkamp and he moved on. Alien and Predator will always make money on small budgets. Fox R films will end up on Hulu and not on Disney+. Anything that is not in production will be tossed, I'm sure. That doesn't mean the tossed ideas won't produce "seeds" for Disney's teams to do as they see fit with them with known franchises. Disney makes money. They will continue you to do so with EVERYTHING they buy.

@brodie999 - Funny IMDB still has Blomkamp alien listed under Scott's filmography....and a Gladiator 2?

@Lostcause - I know. But Disney convinced Lucasfilm to expand the Star Wars Universe, so I'm pretty sure they'll convince Fox to do the same thing to their franchises since Fox's board of directors are joining Disney's already impressive leadership team.

How many movies will be released next year that aren't sequels, prequels, remakes, reboots, or an adaptation of an existing work?

@MasterMix - I agree but the problem is original movies don't make shit at the box office so the studios will keep churning out existing stories.

Maybe a short netflix series might work, but it's so over done the aliens aren't even scary no more. You can't even go the predator route as they fcked that up now

I loved Alien 1-3, Predator 1-2 and Terminator 1-2. All others just aren't worth it. Shame because these franchises are so rich with material.

Looks good. I wish they had let Neil Blomkamp make his version of a sequel.
