Warner Bros. and Legendary have debuted an awesome new IMAX poster for Dune, their hotly-awaited adaptation of Frank Herbert's immensely popular sci-fi novel of the same name, featuring Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) walking alone through the sands of Arrakis.

The Denis Villeneuve-directed epic will have its world premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival this Friday, so the first reactions should be online before the end of the week.

Dune is still expected to be the first of a planned two-part adaptation, but it's unclear when that second film will go into production as its status will now depend on whether the first movie is a box office success, which may prove to be much easier said than done with WB's controversial day-and-date theatrical and streaming release plan still in place. However, considering the recent IMAX preview reportedly revealed the film's title as Dune: Part One, it seems like the film's box office performance may not be the only determining factor in whether we get Part Two

The film boasts an incredibly impressive cast, which includes Academy Award-nominee Timothée Chalamet (Call Me by Your NameLittle Women), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible - FalloutDoctor Sleep), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker; X-Men: Apocalypse), Academy Award-nominee Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame; Avengers: Infinity War), Stellan Skarsgård (ChernobylAvengers: Age of Ultron), Dave Bautista (Avengers: EndgameGuardians of the Galaxy), Stephen McKinley Henderson (FencesLady Bird), Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From HomeEuphoria), David Dastmalchian (Blade Runner 2049Ant-Man and the Wasp), Chang Chen (Mr. LongCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Rogue One: A Star Wars StorySex Education), with Academy Award-nominee Charlotte Rampling (45 YearsAssassin’s Creed), with Jason Momoa (AquamanGame of Thrones), and Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old MenSkyfall).

In addition to directing, Villeneuve also co-wrote the script with Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange; The Mummy) and Eric Roth (Forrest Gump; The Curious Case of Benjamin Button). He's currently penning Part Two

Dune is slated to arrive simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max on October 22.

This film absolutely needs to succeed…It’ll be an absolute crime if the full story doesn’t get to play out…

@vegetaray - There's been plenty of films that were INTENDED to start franchises and have sequels that never happened.
The Last Airbender
The Golden Compass
John Carter
Green Lantern
Ender's Game
Etc.

Most of these promised, or at least teased sequels that never happened. I think the same is gonna happen with Dune, regardless of quality. I just don't see it turning enough of a profit to justify to the studio to finance the 2nd part.

@vegetaray - @Feralwookiee - This will be another Valerian (2017) box office-wise let's be real (not to mention the pandemic/HBO release) so it's very safe to say Dune will flop

@heyy1 - Totally. It's almost certain to be a big flop and there's almost no chance we'll ever see a 2nd part to this.

@Feralwookiee - except all of those were terrible, big difference

@vegetaray - its going to compete with No Time To Die, Venom 2 and Halloween Kills. 3 theater only movies.
Dune is going to flop cause of WB and their idiotic streaming/theaters strategy. I'll be surprised if this even gets close to 300 milion worldwide

@bobevanz - "Terrible" is an opinion of course, and who's to say Dune won't be also?

I thought there wasn't going to be a simultaneous release of this film on both HBOmax & in cinemas: what with all the legal threats' going on with streaming, especially Max?

A shame as it looks incredible & I'd hate to watch the 1st film & never be able to read the books, because there probably won't be a sequel: I don't like reading a book before the film - a book is usually better.

Even if it does well on HBOmax - Villeneuve won't come back for a HBOmax film?
