James Cameron Compares AVATAR Sequels To THE GODFATHER

James Cameron will be shooting the sequel to Avatar soon, which is planing a release date sometime in 2016, seven years after the original movie which was released in 2009. The movie made more than $2.8 Billion, which makes it the highest grossing movie of all time, and one of two movies to cross the 2 billion dollar mark (the other being Titanic, another James Cameron film). When talking about the sequels, he says fans should think of it as a 'family saga' because of how they will focus on the family that Jake Sully creates on Pandora. "We spread it around quite a bit more as we go forward. It's really the story of his family, the family that he creates on Pandora. His extended family. So think of it as a family saga like 'The Godfather.'" Do you like the first Avatar movie, and are you interested in the planned sequels? Sound off below!

The first avatar is comparable to the 3rd Godfather, in that they are both awful movies.

In all honesty though I'll admit the visuals are great - but the story is cliched, the messages and themes are obvious and forced, and the entire 3rd act makes about as much sense as when the ewoks beat the empire. Avatar is perhaps the most overrated movie of all time.

Nothing against Avatar 2 but I just don't see it doing as well as the first. The reason why is because Avatar was the first movie using the new 3D for its film. Now you have just about every film using 3D that it really is nothing special anymore. I also think having the sequel coming out years later will not help it either.

Look I am not going to lie and say I liked the film. But from a magical world point of view it was beautiful. The world truly felt alien and somewhere you would want to visit. I remember taking a vacation to Hawaii and not wanting to leave because it was so beautiful. Swimming in the ocean & seeing many wonderful fish was cool.

Now imagine Hawaii on a planet scale. To me even though I did not care for the story that is why I am looking forward to see more of Pandora. Like I said I don't see it doing well but I do want to see more from this planet. Pandora to me at least looked like it was based off of the oceans. Just take away the water and you have flying creatures instead of swimming ones.

To me if a director gets you to wish a planet like Pandora exists out there he or she is doing their job. Because you want to feel like you were teleported to another world when you go to the movies.

For all we know a planet could be like that out in the galaxy. Sadly I won't ever get to go planet hopping or my great grand kids. Space technology is still too young. Maybe around the year 3000 or somewhere before or after that time.

I do hope to see what lives under the oceans in the next movie. One thing is for sure about this movie is that it will look really amazing. Hopefully the story can be too.

Cameron is a "AMAUTER HACK".
That likes to cruise around the deepest depths of the ocean in a SUBMARINE equipped w/ cutting edge technology that he helps invent himself & discovering new species along the way. Sounds like a real hack ass to me.

It's like "The Godfather" in that the second and third follow-ups were a desperate attempt to capture the glory of the first one. The difference between the two franchises is that you can, actually, watch "The Godfather" more than once and find it entertaining.

I give credit to the 3D of Avatar. I thought the 3D was amazing and i havent seen 3D like that since. I also give credit to James Cameron for knowin how to market his films and is a genius when it comes to borrowing or using similar formulas the audience has seen in films.

I think James Cameron has lost it again though with filming The Avatar sequels back to back. James Cameron you should have returned back to The Terminator franchise.
