Multiple sources are now reporting that Universal's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is currently eyeing a potential $130 million to $150 million opening weekend in the United States when it launches on June 22nd, which is a number that could potentially go higher as we near the film's release date.
While a step down from its predecessor's record-breaking $208.8 million domestic debut in 2015, which is still the fourth-highest of all-time, the current forecasted opening would place it as the third-largest opening weekend of 2018, after Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War ($257.7M) and Marvel's Black Panther ($202M).
The J.A. Bayona-directed film opens in over fifty foreign countries next week, including India, Spain, and the United Kingdom before making its way to China on June 15th, so there's a strong possibility that it'll already be well on its way to another possible $1 billion+ haul long before it ever debuts in the U.S. Also, with the U.S. world premiere set for June 12th, expect to see more reactions and reviews sooner than later.
On another note, tickets are now officially on sale and Fandango has shared an exclusive featurette with even more awesome behind-the-scenes footage:
It’s been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.
When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.
With all of the wonder, adventure and thrills synonymous with one of the most popular and successful series in cinema history, this all-new motion-picture event sees the return of favorite characters and dinosaurs—along with new breeds more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before.
