Looks Like Rinko Kikuchi Will Be Back For PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING After All; Karl Urban Also Added To Cast

Rinko Kikuchi's Mako was a definite highlight of Pacific Rim, so fans should be pleased to learn that the actress will reprise the role for the sequel. Plus, Karl Urban seems to have joined the cast...

Pacific Rim: Uprising cinematographer Dan Mindel shared a new image to his Instagram page (via Omega Underground) which tells us quite a lot about the cast situation. We had been led to believe that neither of the original film's leads (Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi) would be returning for Steven S. DeKnight's currently shooting sequel, but this confirms that the latter will indeed be back as Mako Mori. It looks like Charlie Day and Burn Gorman are also set to return as scientists Newt and Gottlieb.

Most interestingly, the image seems to reveal that Karl Urban (Dredd, Star Trek Beyond, Thor: Ragnarok) will have a role in the movie, playing a character with the surname Quan. Some of the other character's names are also visible.

Pacific Rim: Uprising is set to hit theaters on February 23, 2018.

Awesome. The relationship between Mako and Pentecost was the heart of the first movie, so I can't wait to see the interactions between her and Boyega.

Also, I think they misspelled Mako's name on that call-sheet.

I just want Ron Perlman back, because him and his black market were the most interesting things from the first movie.
