GOTHAM's James Frain Joins The Cast Of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY As Spock's Father Sarek

A couple of big Star Trek: Discovery announcements here. In addition to James Frain's casting as Sarek, it's been revealed that the CBS All-Access series won't actually make it's May premiere date now...

It looks like we're going to have to wait a bit longer for CBS All-Access' Star Trek Discovery, as EW reports that the show will no longer make its planned May premiere date. The main reason seems to be a scheduling conflict for lead actress Sonequa Martin-Green, who will be shooting The Walking Dead right up until April.

CBS Television Studios issued the following statement:

“Production on Star Trek: Discovery begins next week. We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created. This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it’s best for the show. We’ve said from the beginning it’s more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn’t beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows.”

It's not all bad news though. James Frain (Gotham, True Detective, Orphan Black) has also joined the cast as Vulcan astrophysicist Sarek, who, as fans will be well aware, is Spock's father. This character has appeared in several TV episodes and movies over the years, most recently played by Ben Cross in J.J. Abrams' 2009 reboot.

As previously reported, the rest of the crew will be played by Doug Jones (Lt. Saru), Anthony Rapp (Lt. Stamets), Michelle Yeoh (Starfleet Captain Georgiou), and Shazad Latif as a Klingon officer named Kol.
