Big news for Star Trek fans tonight, as the trades are reporting that Paramount Pictures has tapped Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion) to write and direct a fourth installment in the rebooted film series that kicked-off with J.J. Abrams' Star Trek in 2009.
Chris Pine (Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura) and Karl Urban (McCoy) are all expected to reprise their roles.
Though details are few and far between, it sounds like this will be an entirely separate project to the one that was being developed for S.J. Clarkson to direct. That would have reunited Pine's Captain Kirk with his father (Chris Hemsworth) via a time-travel plot, but negotiations with the actors fell apart last summer and the movie was shelved. As far as we know, Quentin Tarantino is still working in his own venture to the final frontier.
Hawley's Trek movie will, presumably, take place after the events of the well-regarded, but commercially unsuccessful Star Trek Beyond.
