Billy Dee Williams Confirmed To Return As Lando Calrissian In STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

Star Wars: Episode IX may not feature Luke, Leia or Han, but it looks like it will have at least one familiar face from the original trilogy as Billy Dee Williams has now been confirmed to return as Lando!

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Billy Dee Williams will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian, for the first time in over thirty-five years, in next year's Star Wars: Episode IX.

Williams made his debut as the fan-favorite Lando in 1980's The Empire Strikes Back and last appeared in 1983's Return of the Jedi. He's also voiced the character in various video games and television series, including Star Wars Rebels and the Star Wars: Battlefront series.

Production is expected to start later this summer with Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), Lupita N'yong'o (Maz Kanata), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Jimmy Vee (R2-D2), and Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca) are all expected to return while Keri Russell (The Americans) recently joined the cast in an undisclosed role. Mark Hamill had also previously been rumored to appear in some capacity, but following the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, his status remains uncertain.

J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) is returning to direct the next installment with a script that features contributions from Derek Connolly (Jurassic World), Chris Terrio (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), and Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom).

@LegendaryOutlaw - and I still have no interest in seeing Episode IX.

@GreedoSarducci - Fitting as he’s one of the last ones to kill off in this trilogy. Might as well put R2, Chewie and C 3PO in the Falcon and kamakazi it in the next Death Star/planet/big-a** ship and call it the end.

@GreedoSarducci - I still wanted to see IX, but this worries simply because, "HEY WE HAVENT GOTTEN ALL OF THE ORIGINAL MAIN CAST BACK YET! WHO ELSE CAN WE BRING BACK NO MATTER HOW LITTLE SENSE IT MAKES!"

I loved VII. TLJ was... something. So I'll definitely see IX, and not that I dont want to see Lando again, I just dont see a viable way to bring him back. Plus, we know they're gonna kill him just to finish off tr he rest of the OG crew save for the toy sellers.

@GreedoSarducci - I didn't but now that Billy Dee is coming back I'll check it out. I'm also interested to see how JJ will solve the problem of continuing the story after the cluster[frick] TLJ was.

@Reaper87 - totally agree the past has to die. they all should go inside the millennium falcon and warp speed into the 3rd Death Star because JJ ABRAMS has no originality and all die. but Rey should be the only surviving member because Jedi's can time travel, breathe in space, and come back to life. Then she should go back in time and reboot the star wars universe just so fans can stop bitching about Luke drinking green milk in TLJ and ANH.

@nikgrid - your interested in seeing 9 because the token black guy and least memorable character randomly inserted into ep 5 is returning? Honestly Johnson is correct, the past should just die and burn. JJ Abrams is turning Star Wars into a "nostalgia" profit train pandered to fans who cannot move on from the OT characters. I hope Rian Johnson's new trilogy is set 20,000 years into the future where all Jedi's, Skywalkers, Ken-obi, Empire wannabes, etc. are all dead and have nothing but new characters.

@mastakilla39 - "Honestly Johnson is correct, the past should just die and burn."

So he did want to [frick] over the original characters? Is that what you're saying?

"I hope Rian Johnson's new trilogy is set 20,000 years into the future where all Jedi's, Skywalkers, Ken-obi, Empire wannabes, etc. are all dead and have nothing but new characters."

Well I wish he had finished the SKYWALKER SAGA the way it started, then by all means make some crazy SW and subvert all the expectations he likes...But don't start in Ep 8 of the already established universe and story!

This is the one and only thing that can get people excited for Star Wars Episode IX again since Donald Glover’s Lando was the best part of Solo: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/amp/heat-vision/star-wars-billy-dee-williams-returning-as-lando-calrissian-xi-1125818?__twitter_impression=true

@MarvelFan15 - I never understood the love for Glover's Lando. He was the worst part of the movie, in my opinion at least. Still excited for BDW to reprise the role though!

@Humby - Personally I thought Alden Ehrenreich was the worst part of an otherwise really good movie.
Glover, Woody, Bettany, and (surprisingly) Emelia were all pretty great IMO

Wonder what's he's been doing since ROTJ... he's obviously gonna be one of Leia's Outer Rim allies from TLJ

@LNBfett12 - Harrison Ford can barely walk in the Falcon without breaking his Leg. You really think these actors would survive?

@LNBfett12 - These people aren't immortals they are getting to old. Carrie Fisher already passed away of old age.

Time for newbies to take over. Say good bye to these old timers
