GAME OF THRONES Creators David Benioff And D.B. Weiss To Write A New Series Of STAR WARS Movies
Lucasfilm has announced that Game of Thrones duo David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will work on a brand new series of Star Wars films that'll be separate from the Skywalker saga and Rian Johnson's new trilogy.
It was recently announced that The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson would take the reigns on a brand new Star Wars trilogy that would explore a completely different part of the galaxy far, far away, and Lucasfilm has just revealed that Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will follow suit with a series of films of their own.
“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”
“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” Benioff and Weiss said in a joint statement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”
The report makes no mention of what the new films would focus on, except to specify that they'd be completely separate from the current saga entries and Johnson's planned trilogy.
