SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY Looks Set For A Most Impressive Opening Weekend At The Domestic Box Office

There doesn't seem to be quite the same level of enthusiasm for Solo: A Star Wars Story as there was for previous journeys to the galaxy far, far away, but the upcoming Disney/Lucasfilm release still looks set for a most impressive opening weekend at the US box office.

Deadline reports that the Ron Howard-directed Star Wars flick is currently tracking towards $170M-plus over the course of its 4-day opening weekend. Though that obviously doesn't compare to the opening weekend hauls of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, it is significantly higher than Rogue One's $155M.

These are only industry projections, however, and may be a little optimistic. We'll find out when Solo: A Star Wars Story blasts into theaters on May 25.

I just cannot see it happening. Considering the 'hype' for this movie and the fact that Infinity War and Deadpool 2 are also in cinemas, it'll be 130 mil. Tops

@MalseMarcel - You have to remember this is family friendly where DP2 is not. I think DP2 will do well, but its not a film i can take my kids to, where i can probably bring my nephew or daughter to this(and probably will). I think with IW hype winding down by opening weekend for this, and DP2 being a different rating will help this a lot.

@Gizmoduck - I guess you're right about that, but I think it still won't do that good as said in the article

I know I’ll be seeing it opening night and probably twice opening weekend. As will most everyone I know (who see these sorts of movies) so I can believe it.

@TheUnworthyThor - Aside from 2-3 people on this site (one of which is you), almost no one else is excited about this movie after TLJ.

@Elle79 - I guess you failed to read this article...?

@TheUnworthyThor - I read it, and the movie isn't coming anywhere near $175 million for its opening weekend. Let's revisit in a fe well, shall we? You can tell me then that I was right.

@Elle79 - This tracking would have to be WAY off for “almost no one else is excited about this movie” to remotely true so okay.

Technically Rogue One’s 4 day was like 172 million I believe so this tracking puts Solo about on par with that.

The last trailer really impresses me. The cinematography looks amazing! I like the vibe of this movie so cool.

Going to Cannes Festival so maybe I'll see it there

After the crap that was Last Jedi people are a little weary of what they are putting out. I'll see it but I might wait until the discount theater. I want it to be great but Last Jedi still stings lol Such a bad episode.

I think Deadpool and Solo will be just fine. It’s pretty smooth sailing until Jurassic World comes out on June 22 including basically a completely vacant weekend right after Solo comes out and then a weekend with just Ocean’s 8. Both making bank.

@TheUnworthyThor - I think the 3 big April/May releases are going to make good money together until JW comes in and cleans house.
