STAR WARS Creator George Lucas Actually Helped Direct A Short Sequence For SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY

George Lucas hasn't had a whole lot to do with Star Wars since Disney took over, but the legendary director dropped by the Solo set to visit his friend Ron Howard and ended up helping with a key scene...

EW's Solo: A Star Wars Story coverage continues with a profile on Ron Howard, who took the helm of the movie when original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller left the project over "creative differences."

During the interview, Howard revealed that George Lucas actually paid a visit to the set while a key scene aboard the Millennium Falcon was being filmed. Only intending to drop by to see his friend, Lucas reportedly stuck around for 5 hours and ended up contributing to the scene.

Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy recounts the story:

“There’s even one little moment in a scene that — I can’t tell you what, sorry — but in the scene on the Millennium Falcon where George said, ‘Why doesn’t Han just do this.’ It actually is a funny little bit that will probably get a laugh.

Ron happened to be by the monitor and not inside the Falcon and he goes, ‘Oh that’s a great idea,’ and ran in and said, ‘George wants us to do this.’ So that was pretty cool. I think George felt pretty great about that. He could revisit these characters, and I think he felt so comfortable, obviously with Ron being there, that it was just fun for him."

So, you could say George Lucas directed - or at least, helped direct - a scene for Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Despite the overall negative reaction to the prequel trilogy, quite a few fans feel they have a more traditional Star Wars feel than the newer films, and there are some who would love to see Lucas return to the franchise.

That seems highly unlikely, but hey, perhaps this experience will prompt him to make his way back to the galaxy far, far away in some capacity in the future.

For some reason I feel like Solo will surprise some people and not be as divisive as everyone believes it will be.

@smgmayhem - i am all for George returning as long as his ex-wife gets to edit the footage... IMO her editing is what made Star Wars a cultural phenomena and has been key to the best movies Lucas has been involved in.

@smgmayhem - I hope so. I've put a lot of faith into this movie ever since Lord and Miller were announced.

So this means Lucas will once again be raping childhoods. Bastard.

@obredaan - any childhood that can be “raped” by a movie being bad probably didn’t have all that noteworthy of a childhood.

@obredaan - He offered advice on one scene. He isn't doing anything to your childhood. Only actual rapists can rape your childhood, like Bill Cosby. These others can make terrible sequels or remakes, but for the most part, the original still exists. Your childhood is safe.

@obredaan - If a movie or TV series can be ruined by a poor sequel, adaptation or remake, you must not have cared much for it to begin with.

@obredaan - One thing I agree with feminists regarding is that everyone needs to quit using the term rape unless they're describing actual rape. Using it in this context downplays the severity of actual rape and damages the meaning of the word.

Your childhood can't be raped by a movie you don't like.

@BigMikeReviews - yeah, the bit about him hearing about "Star Wars" from Lucas when it was just a concept he was planning out put an interesting angle on the whole project.

I also liked that fact that his castmate Ford and Lucas both gave him advice for the character when he took over.

I honestly haven't given up hope on this one, even though I always felt that the idea of doing a young Han Solo flick was just an inherently bad one. Still, Lawrence Kasdan writing and Ron Howard directing suggests to me that it has a better-than-average chance of actually being good.

Please don’t there be a #ReleaseTheLucasCut campaign!

I’ll go see this because why not really. I’m silly that way.
