It's been over a decade since Revenge of the Sith was released and during that time, Ewan McGregor has been asked over and over again about the possibility of returning to play Obi-Wan Kenobi in a spinoff movie. When Disney purchased Lucasfilm, it finally appeared as if that could happen but it's no closer to becoming a reality right now, especially after Solo disappointed at the box office back in May.
During a recent interview to promote the release of Christopher Robin, McGregor was asked to provide an update on the long rumoured release and made it clear that nothing is being worked on as of right now. "I would totally do it, of course," he confirmed, before adding: "There’s no plans as such to do it, as far as I know." Well, it's fair to say that's not what most of us wanted to hear about the project!
There have been rumours that the movie will debut on Disney's planned streaming service, while other sites have claimed that all future Star Wars spinoffs have been put on hold while Lucasfilm reevaluates its plans. McGregor, meanwhile, concluded by saying that he believes there is potential there. "There must be a good story to tell as they’re doing spin-offs – there’s likely to be a good Obi-Wan between me and Alec Guinness." What do you guys think?
