With
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker fast approaching and merchandise for the movie now in stores, we have some fresh details about the final chapter in the long-running "Skywalker Saga."
Up until now, it's been widely assumed that Kylo Ren recruited the Knights of Ren from Luke Skywalker's Jedi Order, but, reading between the lines, it now sounds like they may have been sent by Supreme Leader Snoke and Ben Solo earned his place as their leader along with the "Kylo Ren" moniker (possibly by killing all of the young Jedi and his Master...or so it seemed).
"Kylo Ren's helmet is designed in the style of the Knights of Ren," the official Ultimate Star Wars New Edition reveals, seemingly proving it's not the other way around. "It is also reminiscent of the infamous mask of his grandfather, Darth Vader, connecting Kylo Ren to the dark side of his family heritage."
"The helmet conceals his former identity as Ben Solo (also obscured by the helmet's vocoder which makes his voice sound more threatening), and serves to intimidate both his enemies and his subordinates in the First Order. Beyond this and the protection it affords, the helmet has no special functions."
It's about time Lucasfilm pulled the curtain back on the Knights of Ren, and this new piece of information might at least serve as a start. With any luck, The Rise of Skywalker will continue to explain where they came from and how they link to Snoke, Kylo, and possibly even The Emperor.
