With ALIEN: COVENANT opening soon, Director/ Producer Ridley Scott spoke to IGN about the future of the Alien franchise. "we're writing [a sequel] now, as we speak. I'll be filming that within 14 months."  That would put a production start date into summer of next year.  So fans could look for another Alien film from Ridley Scott in fall 2019 or any time in 2020.

Regarding his plans to resolve unanswered questions of the Alien universe in future films, Scott elaborated to IGN that the story is intentionally left "wide open."  According to Scott: "That's why I'm doing it, so you're asking these questions."

Ridley Scott has previously mentioned "Awakening" as a possible title for another film in the franchise that would follow ALIEN: COVENANT.  In his discussion with IGN he apparently refers to both his next planned Alien film and the cancelled Neill Blomkamp 'Alien 5' as "Awakening." Regardless of the title of the next film in the series, fans can begin building the excitment as soon as they've seen ALIEN: COVENANT.

ALIEN: COVENANT opens in North America on May 19.
