Noomi Rapace Will Not Reprise Her Role As 'Elizabeth Shaw' In Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT

In a recent interview, The Martian director Ridley Scott revealed that Noomi Rapace will not return for the Prometheus sequel. What does this mean for the film? Hit the jump to check it out!

While talking with the Daily Mail, Prometheus director Ridley Scott revealed that Noomi Rapace (who played Dr. Elizabeth Shaw in first film), will not reprise her role in Alien: Covenant. When asked about her involvement, Scott revealed that she was not involved, and that they are still going through the process of "casting the main roles."

Based on how Prometheus ended, it's pretty insane that Noomi will not be in the film. It was already revealed that Michael Fassbender is reprising his role as David, and it was rumored that there will be multiple copies of his android throughout the film. With that said, most of you might ask: How could this sequel be possible without Rapace's character? Here's my take on this...

Ridley Scott could easily go with a time jump here. This film could take us decades into the future, after Elizabeth is long gone. David would survive because he's an Android, and androids aren't humans, therefore he lives. With that done, David could carry out the work of Elizabeth Shaw, and venture out to the Engineer's home world to find answers. Along the way, he'll run into many new creatures, and somehow find some human life! From that point, the storyline would then focus on David and whatever humans he finds, as they finish out the action-packed events of the film. While that's one possible explanation out of many, we'll see for sure what Ridley has planned when the sequel hits theaters in 2017.

Anyhow, Ridley Scott, in a separate interview with The Guardian, spoke about the challenges he faces while directing a film like Alien: Covenant. "It is bloody brain surgery! You're putting together a whole group of people, you're trying to budget as accurately as you can and, at the end of it, you've got to sell a lot of tickets. That's more complex than banking - but a few of us manage to pull it off." He then added, "I’m not kidding myself; I love the challenge. If you don’t, don’t do the job." He's got a point there. What do you think will happen in the next film in the "Alien" franchise? Share your thoughts about this news in the comment section below!

Alien: Covenant hits theaters on October 6, 2017, and it will have a "pretty hard R" rating.

I have a better theory. Since David is an Android, the whole Prometheus incident was just a cheap dream he had...

Didn't we hear at some point during the last months that the new movie's going to be set quite a few years after Prometheus? Not sure though.

The ending of the movie basically said "tune in for the sequel to see what happens to this character!"

When people discover how cheap they went to shoot the first Alien film back in the 70's it all makes sense why he'd say something like this.

I just played through Alien: Isolation, and I loved it. Captured a lot of atmosphere from the original movie, and had some pretty good scares. Recommended for fans of the franchise that haven't played it yet

The whole reason people would see a sequel to this dung heap is to see what happens to her character, since the ending of that movie sequel baits HARD. Taking her character out of the sequel is not only a [frick] you to people who like the first movie, but its actually a [frick] you to the first movie itself and makes it even more pointless, if the main character from the first movie isn't even in the sequel, then what's the point of watching the first one, especially since they'll probably have the new characters spend time in the sequel finding out stuff we already know from the first movie.
