Is A Superhero Role In Timothée Chalamet's Future? DUNE Star Reveals The BATMAN Film That Inspired Him To Act

Timothée Chalamet is already a studio darling at Warner Bros. after delivering a box office win with Wonka and Dune: Part Two seems poised for even greater success. Should WB push him to join the DCU?

Along with the likes of Tom Holland, Barry Keoghan and Austin Butler, actor Timothée Chalamet is viewed as one of the next big stars in Hollywood that's set to lead the next era of moviemaking.

Interestingly enough, Chalamet revealed in the past that the two pieces of advice he received from the venerable Leonardo DiCaprio was to say no to superhero movies and avoid hard drugs.

However, in a new interview with the NY Times to promote the release of Dune: Part Two, the Wonka actor has revealed that it was a Christian Bale Batman movie that inspired him to get into acting in the first place.

Said Chalamet, "But the movie that made me want to act is a superhero movie, The Dark Knight. If the script was great, if the director was great, I’d have to consider it."

Given that statement, it's interesting to ponder what kind of role DC Studios co-chair James Gunn could find for Chalamet in the DCU, given that Chalamet appears to have settled in at Warner Bros. Discovery.

Chalamet as Nightwing? The Brave and the Bold is set to introduce Damian Wayne so it stands to reason that all of the previous Robins will factor into the film, in some fashion.

How about Chalamet as Wally West version of the Flash? If WBD doesn't outright sideline the Scarlet Speedster after the debacle of the Ezra Miller film, moving on to Barry Allen's successor would be a smart way to distance themselves from that film. One trip to the hairdresser and Chalamet would certainly have the right look to portray the founding Teen Titans member.

It's also worth considering if Gunn would consider breaking his rule of not casting for a role until a script has been completed and let Chalamet handpick the writer and director that he would want to work with.

Marvel Studios routinely hires talent before a script or director has been secured, with the recent casting of Mahershala Ali as Blade providing the most recent example.

Given that Gunn secured his role as co-chair on the strength of his Guardians of the Galaxy films, it's not out of the realm of possibility that he would bend his rules and steal from Kevin Feige's playbook to nab an 'it' actor such as Chalamet.

Who do you think Chalamet could portray in the DCU? Let us know in the comment section below.

Dune: Part Two is slated to hit North American theaters on March 1.

In the MCU he could be Harry Osborn or a mutant. In DC, he could be someone in the Batfamily like Dick, Jason, Tim or even Terry.

@MCUKnight11 - I'd say Tim or Dick for Bat family. Nightwing is supposed to be a bit of a heartthrob, so i'd probably say Dick.

For Marvel, maybe Warren Worthington, if you dye his hair blonde and give him a pair of wings.

@MCUKnight11 - Would the Osborns even be a thing in the MCU post-No Way Home? When Dafoe’s Norman showed up at F.E.A.S.T. he said someone was living at his house, OSCORP didn’t exist in this universe, and that his son didn’t exist.

So let’s say an MCU version of the Osborns do exist. After Raimi-verse Norman killed Aunt May, and MCU Peter nearly killed him for it, would MCU Peter really form a friendly relationship with anyone named Osborn?

@TheVisionary25 - He seems tailor made for Nightcrawler if he can nail the accent.

I could maybe see him as Nightcrawler honestly for Marvel…

In terms the DCU , the only Robin I could somewhat see him as is Tim but he might be too old for that now (he’s 28 right now).

IF...he were to be in a comic book movie. He needs to avoid James Gunns un-serious poorly conceived film universe and ONLY work with Matt Reeves or a return to a Dark Knight/Man of Steel universe.
Origame
Origame - 2/25/2024, 1:33 PM
@Forthas - you say this after seeing zero movies or footage from them in this universe.
Forthas
Forthas - 2/25/2024, 1:50 PM
@Origame - I have seen what they have made for DC so far including The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker which were directed by Gunn and Shazam FOTG, Blue Beetle and Aquaman LK, produced by Peter Safran. That is enough!
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/25/2024, 2:05 PM
@Forthas - I get where you're coming from with TSS/Peacemaker, but what makes you think all movies will be like that?

Think we should wait for Superman first, and then we'll see if Gunn can drop the unseriousness and conceive something rich.
Origame
Origame - 2/25/2024, 2:11 PM
@Forthas - except none of those movies are in the dcu. Gunn already confirmed superman legacy was gonna have a different tone than the suicide squad and peacemaker and isn't gonna be a comedy.

Also, both Safran and Gunn have produced serious work such as the conjuring movies and infinity war respectively, and their primary role is producing.

McMurdo - 2/25/2024, 2:12 PM

bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/25/2024, 4:50 PM
@McMurdo - if there's a director/writer that should stay farther away from DC, it's Snyder. Atleast Gunn can write a coherent story with interesting characters
Forthas
Forthas - 2/25/2024, 6:32 PM
@bkmeijer1 -

"...what makes you think all movies will be like that?"

This CEO/Director did not like Batman Begins or the Dark Knight...the cast is the type that evokes a Guardians of the Galaxy vide...Rachel Brosnahan said that the film had a "sense of humor"...they added two characters from the Donner films that were used primarily for comic relief...James Gunn has stated that he does not take Cbm's seriously...Frank Grillo has described Creature Commandos as a hard R if not X rated film with a lot of comedy and this is supposed to be serving the same universe....and all of his other comic book films and TV shows have had the same comedic tone.

So it is just an educated guess.

Forthas
Forthas - 2/25/2024, 6:36 PM
@Origame - BUT...he is pulling many of the same characters from those film and TV shows. Is he going to just make them serious dramatic characters all of a sudden? I don't trust anything that James Gunn says. Let's just say he has a long documented history of misleading his audience and the talent that works for him. Frank Grillo indicated that Creature Commandos was filled with adult humor and it is supposed to be set in the same universe as Superman Legacy.
Origame
Origame - 2/25/2024, 6:59 PM
@Forthas - this just in...

...you can have comedic films in an otherwise serious universe.

Also, when has he misled anyone?
DankMan
DankMan - 2/25/2024, 7:20 PM
@Origame - thank you. Just because James gun has a certain tone to some of his movies doesn’t mean he will exclusively apply that to Superman Legacy. Let the man cook. Let’s see a freaking trailer before we bury the universe
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/26/2024, 1:29 AM
@Forthas - after Man of Steel, it's about time Superman gets a sense of humour on the big screen.

But I get the guess you're making. I'm not that worried. All of Gunn's projects so far are about groups of misfits, with humour that fits that. Superman isn't, so maybe the tone will be different.
TruePunishment
TruePunishment - 2/26/2024, 11:34 AM
@bkmeijer1 - I've been saying it for a while, at least Superman is now being handled by a guy who actually likes the character, unlike Zack "My Batman could get raped in prison" Snyder.

If it were for Marvel Studios, He would be a great Harry Osborne. If it were for DC, I could see him as a young Dick Grayson.

He’d be a good in between dick Grayson. Still Robin but almost Nightwing
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/25/2024, 2:03 PM
Think Harry Osborn would be a good fit, but I'm not sure Chalamet would take that as it probably requires him to make multiple appearances which leaves less time for other roles.

I rather see Chalamet as Dick Grayson though, like that banner image. Not in the DCU (same reason as above), but in the Reeverse instead. Think he'd fits in best over there.
