We knew that Universal Pictures intended to fast-track its next Jurassic World movie, and just a couple of months after the project was announced, production is now underway in Thailand.

According to Variety, the movie will also make use of locations in Malta and the U.K.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Godzilla director Gareth Edwards is set to helm the dino-disaster flick, with Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley on board as producers. Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Luna Blaise and David Iacono are set to star, with Scarlett Johansson playing the lead.

This marks a return to franchise filmmaking for the highly in-demand Black Widow star, who was a fixture of Marvel Studios' MCU for many years. There is no information on the character Johansson will play.

Specific lot details are also under wraps, but we now have some idea of the general premise, and it sounds like the plan is to go back to basics by taking a page out of the original Jurassic Park's play book.

The movie is being described as “a completely fresh take, launching a new Jurassic era, following three adults and three teens getting stuck on the Island.”

We assume this island will be one of the Muertes Archipelago, aka The Five Deaths. As for the title, the movie is reportedly being referred to as "Jurassic World 4" and the rumored Jurassic City.

The month-long Thailand unit production was confirmed by the country’s Department of Tourism director general Jaturon Phakdeewanit, who said that production will take place June 13-July 16 at locations including Bangkok, Trang, Phang Nga, Phuket and Chiang Mai.

David Leitch was in talks to direct in early February, before parting ways with the film just a few days later. Apparently, "it became clear to Leitch that his creative input would be minimal due to the project’s fast-tracked status and how the producers wanted to wield a stronger hand after the experiences of Jurassic World: Dominion."

Dominion director Colin Trevorrow will not be involved, but he did share his ideas for a potential follow-up last year.

"The previous five films are plots about dinosaurs. This one is a story about characters in a world in which they coexist with dinosaurs," said the filmmaker. "For the franchise to be able to move forward – because it’s inherently unfranchisable, there probably should have only been one Jurassic Park – but if we’re gonna do it, how can I allow them to tell stories in a world in which dinosaurs exist, as opposed to, here’s another reason why we’re going to an island?"

Do you have any interest in another Jurassic World movie? Drop us a comment down below.

"Four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, dinosaurs now live and hunt alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history's most fearsome creatures."

Ok I think it's funny Ali is jumping onto another major franchise while waiting for anything to happen with blade, but how are they gonna do another movie? They already did the endgame of the franchise. And they can't rationalize a park again, which is literally the basis.

@Origame - keep it simple. Write a simple good script that is essentially just another Jurassic Park but create a good reason for why these people are on this island even if it's just Jurassic Park 3 all over again. These are talented actors and Gareth can cook. If the script isn't complete trash it'll make money. Lots of "if"s here of course.

So basically we’re getting another Jurassic Park film where people are trapped on an island with Dinosaurs. That was the problem with Dominion. We had Dinosaurs interacting with humans on the latter’s turf but most of the film took place on another island of Dinosaur.

@tb86 - that movie had a series of problems, focusing on bugs instead of human dinosaur interaction , Masie plot, and basically summing up the dinosaur human interaction in the last 5 min. Being trapped with dinosaurs has been one of the better plot points from the previous movie

@tb86 -

Trevorrow never got Jurassic Park to begin with. His quote says it all.
"The previous five films are plots about dinosaurs. "

Bullshit. The first Jurassic Park isn't a classic because it's about dinosaurs, the first is a classic because at its core it's a survival story, it's a character driven story with likeable grounded characters, it's a thriller in the same vein as Alien or Jaws.

Studios and directors now see it as a summer tentpole blockbuster, stuffing more dinosaurs and more CGI and more action, there's no devotion to just telling a good story anymore.

Suprirsed they never made a movie on the original island where it turns out Sam Jackson has been alive, sans an arm, and he has had it with those M*****F***** dinos on that M*****F***** island!

@UniqNo - was thinking the same thing. Makes no sense to call it Jurassic City if it's on an island. Unless the dinos build a city there themselves ofcourse

@Deadinside @UniqNo - for some reason I'm thinking of a dinos driving cars now. Maybe even at Planet Dinosaur, which also sounds like an attraction.

Jurassic Kingdom could be it though. Heard it here first

I quit that lame ass shit after the one with Star Lord and the hamster ball car thing.

The first one is [frick]ing epic - the rest are mid AF family friendly adventure movies with good dinosaurs.

@Batmangina - the character work is all really great honestly. The cliff scene is brilliant. The raptors in the fields, the trex at night scene. It's a good sequel.

@McMurdo - I'm about 45 minutes in and it IS better than I remembered - I actually had it confused with III with William H Macy for some reason.

I was so expecting when the franchise returned they would be heading towards a Jurassic Wars concept with military use of Dino's.

I was OK with a return to doing another attempt at a theme park Island first however but kinda lost interest to a large degree after the 5th film.

Then after the last one gonna take a fair amount to get me to check out this one sadly but STILL hope to be wrong and they return to form at least.
IAmAHoot
IAmAHoot - 6/14/2024, 7:53 AM
@Apophis71 - I just want one without kids or teens! Never going to happen though. It's a formula they've needed to repeat since the first (very likely on Spielberg's behest).
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 6/14/2024, 8:01 AM
@IAmAHoot - I get that and hope the kids love it but unless they do something new an interesting will probably not actively seek it out so would only end up watching cos the kids put it on or comes on a TV channel I was watching :D
LSHF
LSHF - 6/14/2024, 8:17 AM
@IAmAHoot - Yes, the more kids, the more family-friendly, the less gore and serious scares, where any character can die.

@Apophis71 - You'll get your military dinos when they crossover with G.I. Joe...!
After that, the sequel where we get the Transformers with Dino-Bots doing battle with the "real deal"...!☮️👍

@WaffeX - We need them to remake all the Dino Crisis games and give us a sequel. And yes some movies would also be great.

Sounds too derivative and repetitive at this point unfortunately. Dominion was heading into a planet of the apes type situation which is just a whole different vibe. I get what Colin Trevarrow is saying about how you have to tell a story with the circumstances the previous movies set but the direction that leads is just not exciting for me. Not sure what they should do a reboot seems stupid too
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 6/14/2024, 7:50 AM
@Ghoul - That was actually one of my biggest complaints with the last one. The one before it ended with dinosaurs being let loose all around the earth, but then the last one barely played up any of that. It played no real part in the movie.

Now this one sounds like they are going back to one of the original islands where 6 people will be trapped. So again, it doesn't sound like they will be dealing much with dinosaurs out in the rest of the world, or living side by side with them in nature.

That's disappointing. They've got a somewhat interesting plot point set up be refuse to use it.
Ghoul
Ghoul - 6/14/2024, 9:07 AM
@CorndogBurglar - exactly! I think there is no real good avenue to travel with the Jurassic Park idea, it’s almost better to just come at the dinosaur idea with a whole new angle, no park just a different dinosaur heavy franchise? No clue it’s a tough one but a great dinosaur movie again would be awesome!

I think there's not much you can do with the concept of Jurassic park/world at this point to make it interesting.

I mean, moving foward is an option but we already saw the world where dinos are co existing there.
Maybe the right thing to do (aside from, you know, let the franchise sleep) is maybe do movies as small prequels?

I imagine a good horror film where the first attempt to do a cloned raptor goes terribly wrong, and it could even be a smaller thing.
