In a brief interview while promoting his latest TV project, JJ Abrams' Alcatraz, Sam Neill - who portrayed Dr. Alan Grant in the first and third installments of the Jurassic Park franchise - has formally denied plans to go ahead with a fourth installment (Despite director Joe Johnston's repeated interest in making the film) due to effects designer Stan Winston, who did the effects for all the dinosaurs in the series, being dead. From MTV:

"I think we've told the story. I think it's done," he said. But there's a deeper reason for why Neill wouldn't want to go back into that world: "[Legendary effects expert] Stan Winston who made those beautiful dinosaurs died. So, no Stan, no 'Jurassic Park' really … [and author Michael] Crichton died too."

Jurassic Park 4 currently has no release date.

I heard a proposed story involved government straining dinosaurs to be a tactical force using guns and Rocket launchers etc. I for one am glad this is dead. The third one sucked anyway... spinosaurus egypticus really?

Unless one of Crichton's last unfinished or unreleased novels happens to be another Jurassic Park book (which is slightly possible...) I won't support any further films.

I love how these guys act like they have an obligation to respect Crichton's work despite the fact that The Lost World had nothing to do with the book and JP3 wasn't even based on a novel.

Wow, that's a shame. Well, it will go down in history as one of the greatest movie trilogies ever. The third was the best by far in my opinion.

Good thing they didn't plan to reboot the franchise.

While I do agree that JP3 wasn't the best the series had to offer, I think this is just Sam Niell's personal opinion to the project.

Besides, if Joe Johnston is still game after "Captain America" and with the new Jurassic Park video game coming out soon, I'm pretty sure that interest in the franchise will be renewed and the film will once again be resurrected (if only briefly) from Development Hell.

Now that I think about it, has Joe Johnston said ANYTHING about what he's doing after Captain America?

@Gamester76 he did say that after Cap was finished, he'd work with Spielberg on JP4. Haven't heard anything from him since.

I hope it does gets made, there's still hope.

JP3 may have been a downer, but I would rather see another Jurassic Park movie then another X-Men movie.

Totally agree with bith you guys. JP 3 sucked monkey balls. JP was my childhoid and that douche Johnston ruined JP for me. Would love to see spielberg direct it. That would be awesome. As long as he doesnt throw aliens in there....
