In a brief interview while promoting his latest TV project, JJ Abrams'
Alcatraz, Sam Neill - who portrayed Dr. Alan Grant in the first and third installments of the
Jurassic Park franchise - has formally denied plans to go ahead with a fourth installment (Despite director Joe Johnston's repeated interest in making the film) due to effects designer Stan Winston, who did the effects for all the dinosaurs in the series, being dead. From
MTV:
"I think we've told the story. I think it's done," he said. But there's a deeper reason for why Neill wouldn't want to go back into that world: "[Legendary effects expert] Stan Winston who made those beautiful dinosaurs died. So, no Stan, no 'Jurassic Park' really … [and author Michael] Crichton died too."
