Earlier this month, Universal gave us our first full look at Peter Jackson's next epic adventure, Mortal Engines. While he's not directing the film, he did write the adaptation and is serving as producer. As such, we can probably expect some pretty magnificent set pieces - especially since the film is set in a world that's unlike anything we've ever seen before.

Universal has released a new featurette for the film, offering us an inside look at the unique world of Mortal Engines, where gigantic moving cities roam the Earth following a cataclysmic event that destroyed civilization. It's an intriguing premise and one that definitely allows for some creative liberty. And who better to help bring that vision to life than Peter Jackson?

"The breadth of vision that they brought to Lord of the Rings, they're going to bring the same to Mortal Engines," says Robert Sheehan, who plays Tom Natsworthy in the movie, of Jackson and his team. Check out the full video below for more from the cast and crew of Mortal Engines as they discuss the highly anticipated fantasy adventure.

Thousands of years after a cataclysmic event, humans try to survive on a planet where gigantic moving cities ruthlessly prey upon smaller traction towns. When Londoner Tom Natsworthy encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw, he soon finds himself forging an unlikely alliance that changes the course of the future.

Mortal Engines rolls into theaters December 14.

I like the concept of this movie and hopefully it will do well and lead to other crazy kinds of movies getting approved.

I remember before the Hobbit came out he talked about wanting to do Mortal Engines and he also talked about Temeraine, so with Mortal Engines finally coming out hopefully Temeraine will be next.

That concept about the Napoleon wars, but with dragons is one only Peter could bring to life. So I'll be seeing Mortal Engines, because even if Peter isn't directing it I know if this movie does well Temeraine has a better chance of getting made.

Love the concept, and loved the teaser trailer. But the second one makes it look more like films like City of Ember (if anyone remembers that?) I also get vibes that put this more in the realm of the Maze Runner and Mortal Instruments and other teeny adventure films.

We need a movie that is full steampunk. The design asthetic of that part of pop culture is just really full of potential.

I’ve never liked video games but someone showed me the art book for Bioshock Infinite, and I went and bought it and played the whole thing just for the design and the great world building.

Someone make a Bioshock Infinite movie!

They must be trying to use Peter Jackson's name to sell this movie. I hope its good, I'm kind of excited to see it.

I get an uncomfortable Waterworld - meets - Road Warrior vibe here. I hope it goes the way of Road Warrior because Waterworld (to be kind) did not do well.
