POWER RANGERS Star Dacre Montgomery Says The Franchise Is Now Being Rebooted

We know another Power Rangers movie is coming, but it won't be a sequel to the 2017 version according to star Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things). In fact, the franchise is reportedly being rebooted...

2017's Power Rangers movie was a critical and commercial disaster as it grossed only $142 million worldwide on a $100 million budget. Trying to give the franchise the feel of a superhero origin story was a big mistake, as was the lack of Rangers and donut themed final act.

Most of the cast have already moved on to bigger and better things, of course, with Naomi Scott delivering a star making performance in Aladdin and Dacre Montgomery taking on a lead role in Stranger Things. However, we know they all signed multi-picture deals to star in a series of movies.

Well, Montgomery has now revealed that he won't be returning for a Power Rangers sequel because the franchise is being rebooted. "I think there is a movie in the works but it's not with me and the cast," he confirmed. "So yes but not with us." That's a shame, but it makes sense and it will be interesting to see what Hasbro and Lionsgate choose to do with the characters next.

After all, it's hard to say how they can differentiate a new batch of Power Rangers from what we've already seen, but the franchise does have potential and a makeover could help in a big way.

What do you guys think?

That's a shame, because the cast was the only good thing about it (except Elizabeth Banks). Naomi Scott seems to have moved on anyway.

(Hopefully it frees up Dacre Montgomery to join the MCU as Johnny Storm and Ludi Lin as Shang Chi).

(Shit, put Becky G as America Chavez too)

(Lazy fancasting, I know)

The reboot needs the doses of action, adventure and humor that films like "Jumanji welcome to the jungle" offer to the public.

@Repian - The action from Thor: Ragnarok reminded me a lot of what I expected from a Power Rangers film today. Kinda throwback-y but still modern and exciting.

The action the film has was si disappointing especially considering they had someone like Ludi Lin in it. The colours really need to pop this time too.

A pity. The cast was the best thing about it. Hope they get it right. Ffs it's Power Rangers, how hard can it be.

Well that's great news because everyone(Me) hated it.

Hated Fox for wasting the FF cast and I hate Saban for wasting this cast as well. I know it’s hard to pull off but wish both had made semi reboots but kept the casts.

Good, now he'll have plenty of time to play Gambit.

Why reboot it when it will just bomb?

Yes! This is good news =D

I'm really excited for a reboot! Hopefully this time they will try something a little more faithful (*those suits and zords* were awful... Also wasn't a fan of their Alpha interpretation) or at least do something original. Another thing they need to work on is getting a proper tone for the franchise. They're a superhero IP dammit, don't be embarrassed of that by trying to go 'dark and gritty' (outside of the Batman trilogy, that stuff tends to fail anyway) and embrace the weird! Honestly (as other, and myself have pointed out) this would do with a tone similar to the MCU.

*That being said... I do understand they might want to shy away from spandex, but there are much better (even fan made) options out there to go with. They could do leather, or something similar to Black Panther. Hell, the CW shows have better costume design than the (Big screen's) last iteration of Power Rangers. Also make sure the zords at least look decent, and not some reject design from Michael Bay.

I hope they don't reboot mighty morphin again and try another season like SPD or Time Force .

This is great news and hopefully this time the movie can stay more close to the source material, plus have the Power Rangers using their helmets, because there is No reason they should be showing their face.
