PREY Star Amber Midthunder Hopes To See Rumored Sequel Tackle "Unforeseen" Threats To Naru's Tribe

Prey was a hit when it premiered on Hulu last year, and star Amber Midthunder has now shared her thoughts on the rumoured sequel and what a battle with the Predators could mean for Naru and her tribe.

Prey was met with widespread acclaim when it launched on Hulu last July, and star Amber Midthunder has since confirmed that sequel talks are underway. The actress played Naru in the reboot, with her Comanche warrior encountering the deadly aliens in that 1700s setting, leading to a vastly different, very exciting, take on a franchise which had grown stale.

The end credits pointed to Naru's tribe going to war with an entire army of invading Predators, so it's possible we'll follow that story or even jump ahead a few years to witness the fallout of whatever came next.

During a recent interview with Collider (via SFFGazette.com), Midthunder talked more about what could be next for the warrior and shared a few hints about where she thinks a sequel could go.

"The movie is such a journey...I think it's a hope for the best, prepare for the worst kind of a situation," the actress says. "I think that it feels as though they're not gonna come back, but there are ultimately obviously all kinds of threats out there that are unforeseen."

"Even like the French fur trappers in that interaction and stuff like that, those are all discoveries of things that are out there that they had no idea about. So I think that it's not necessarily preparing for more predators or whatever; I think it's just there [are] unforeseen threats and we gotta be ready."

Since Prey's release on Hulu last summer, fans have made it clear they want a follow-up.

It also remains the best-reviewed Predator movie according to Rotten Tomatoes, and we're pretty sure sequel news is on the way. Ultimately, that will come down to whether the reboot was a hit in terms of viewership, though we've previously heard that it was

In our own review of the movie, we wrapped up by saying, "Prey delivers pure Predator pandemonium, and is the Predator franchise at its best. It's also a much-needed fresh start for the series that allows Amber Midthunder to shine in a role that promises to put her on the map."

Prey is now streaming on Hulu. Check out our interview with Midthunder in the player below!

Is there a Predator canon? In Alien vs Predator (Spoiler Alert) it is revealed that the Predators developed a relationship with early civilizations. Is that still true? If so, that is an interesting direction the franchise could go in.

Why does it wounds to me like she's hinting a sequel could show her tribe fighting an alien?
Hmmm

I would like if the next movies take place in different time periods. A samurai vs predator would be dope

Prey was good...let's move forward and not drive it into the ground. There are other era's that should be covered.

@jst5 - 100% this!

We need more Prey like Predator films, NOT direct sequels. That story was told, so now let’s explore some other stories…

Good movie but not everything needs a damn sequel. So many different ways to explore the Predator concept.

Prey was really darn good. I can't help but feel (in general) the massive acclaim of the will get them to botch a sequel by overdoing what worked.

@MosquitoFarmer - Well given the actress has said in past interviews she feels sequel should show how power a female native is and be the first to beat a Predator in hand to hand combat...if she got her way then yea it would be a massive botch!

Think about that for a second..Arnold got worked over by one...but a 5'4 100pd girl took one down in hand to hand combat because she's female and native that would be pure comedy.Wait a second...that sounds just like something Disney would do!

@jst5 - Sounds like you got bigger problems bothering than you than my simple worries of the sequel.

@MosquitoFarmer - Or pointing out how stupid that idea would be...not everyone can handle hearing that though.

The DC should snap this chick up immediately & get her into the X-Men. Danielle Moonstar sounds good.

That would be interesting. Essentially creating a brand new franchise around her character. It's not gonna happen.🤣 But it would be a cool way to do a spin-off, from a well-known property.
