Production Start Date For STAR WARS EPISODE VII Revealed; Christmas 2015 Release Confirmed?

A new report seemingly reveals when exactly Star Wars Episode VII will begin principal photography, and the same source also backs up previous claims that the J.J. Abrams helmed movie will indeed be released in the final month of 2015 rather than the already crowded summer. Read on for details!

According to Latino-Review, the first day of principal photography of Star Wars Episode VII is January 21st, 2014. It was recently revealed that pre-production had already begun, while Abrams himself also said that he would be most likely moving to London at the end of this year to prepare for filming. The site goes on to say that this date was chosen because of Martin Luther King Day, but as that holiday isn't celebrated in the UK - where the movie will be shooting at Pinewood - it's unclear why this would make a difference. Regardless, they add that, "Disney/Lucasfilm are so far behind schedule that Episode VII will in fact be released around Christmas 2015 as originally reported by Devin Faraci over at BadAssDigest." Sigh, [frick]ing Christmas. Disney has had Star Wars less than a year and they canceled The Clone Wars, gave Star Wars video game rights to [frick]ing EA, hired Abrams for Star Wars 7, showed interest in spin offs with Yoda and Han and others, want to have Star Wars movies yearly, and now broke the tradition of Star Wars films in May.

Sigh...

Eh, that's fine. Take your time with it and get it right. I'd prefer to keep the May release date tradition but in the grand scheme of things that doesn't really matter.

Bull. Shit. on the date.

Guardians of the Galaxy? Started shooting July for a August 2014 release. 13 month schedule.

If Star Wars is starting in January, and gets a May 2015 release, that's like a 16 month schedule.

If it was coming in December 2015, that'd be a 23 month schedule. Almost two years.

Now, unless this thing has Avatar-levels of animation in it (which it doesn't sound like), there's no necessary reason for it to need a delay to December 2015.

Beside that, Disney is constantly saying that film is coming in Summer 2015, and Lucasfilm itself has announced that their new Celebration convention is being held April 2015 to be "timed to the release of Episode VII" in the same way they scheduled conventions 1-3 in the Aprils before Episodes I-III.

Sorry, but unless Lucasfilm itself announces a [frick]ing December date, I'm not buying it.

They should get Shane Black to direct it then.

And for that [frick]ing matter, "CONFIRMED" should only be used when its from a [frick]ing official source.

@BlackJack10 Honestly, they'll probably make more money in the Winter than they would in the Summer.

Id rather Disney held off until May 2016. They could at least keep the tradition of SW movies in May going.

While a Christmas release date would break tradition for Star Wars films. it would be building on the newer tradition of holiday fantasy block busters like Harry Potter,LOTR and the Hobbit films.

Besides Disney seems to have set the summer aside for Marvel studios films and Sony has already claimed several prime future summer dates for its Spider-Man franchise.

Well I'm glad they aren't going to rush it and are taking their time with it. It also gives them more breathing room to make more money that way. This all around is a very smart move.

To all the people who are whining and want it in May 2015: You do realize that Avengers 2 comes out that month right? And that particular date was set before Disney even acquired Lucasfilm? So yeah, Disney is not going to hurt both of those movies by having them compete against each other. Plus, who really gives a [frick] when it's released as long as it's good? The prequels were all released in May and we all know THOSE were fantastic movies right?

Joking aside, as long as the film is awesome then it is cool to change the date, they probs won't as it is Latino Review with the scoop.

Funny thing is, May of 2015 is wide open with Avengers AOU and some animated flick as the only films on the slate.

All the other studios are waiting to see if Disney opens Episode 7 on memorial day weekend before cementing their May plans.

If Star Wars is indeed pushed back, look for Disney to move POTC Dead Men Tell No Tales away from Superman/Batman in July to memorial day weekend.

Also,it would not shock me if Fox decided to switch Fantastic Four with Assassins Creed for a June Release to try and piggyback on all the CBM hype that will be red hot with massive Marvel and WB productions generating intense media coverage.

May 2016 wouldnt be a good idea, with Amazing Spiderman 3 and X-force coming around that time.

I think its a smart movie to move to winter time. I remember episode 2 didnt do great business cause of Spiderman coming out that same time. Summer movies have become pretty packed lately anyways.

@BlackJack10 If we do a poll of what people want

1.Good Star Wars Movie

2.Star Wars May release date

If people say 2, I will officially have lost faith in humanity.

@BlackJack10: Well that is a bit more reasonable I guess, but there is another Marvel movie already slated for that month too. So I highly doubt they would even consider that month either.

And like I said, as long as the movie is good who [frick]ing cares? If it's released in May it's not automatically going to be a good movie, which is all that matters to me

disney should of aimed for a may 4th aka star wars day release date.
