It was recently announced that MGM is working on a direct sequel to to Paul Verhoeven's original RoboCop with Neill Blomkamp on board to direct, and the District 9 filmmaker has now strongly hinted that he'd like to get Peter Weller back under the helmet as "The Future of Law Enforcement."

Here's Blomkamp's response to a Tweet wondering who should portray the titular cyborg in his film.

It seems clear that Blomkamp wants Weller to return as Officer Alex Murphy, but whether that actually happens remains to be seen.

RoboCop Returns is being developed from a script that was actually written by Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner as a follow-up to Verhoeven's beloved original. Terminator reboot scribe Justin Rhodes will now get to work on a rewrite.

Tell us, would you like to see Weller reprise his iconic role, or do you think they should get someone else? Be sure to leave a comment down below.

Do it. Special effects are good enough and his voice was always an important part.

Kind of figured this given that the name is Robocop Returns.

guessing it would be a in between movie like he wanted to do with alien. also guessing he would just use the voice. do not take the helmet off. its been done in 4 movies already. also look at dredd. it does not need to come off for the movie to be good. the lower half of the face can say a lot.

just have ann louis be in the hospital the whole movie after her injuries. she is too old to play the role.

They can easily rejuvenate Weller's face with CGI.

If he does come back, they are gonna mo-cap the hell outta him and probably get a stunt double to do most of the action stuff. Like, there is no way they could sell him being so slow with the tech we know is possible, especially after that reboot a few years ago. Say what you will about it, but I had now problems with the action in it, including the fact he could run as fast as a car and had facial recognition

I say, just mo-cap his face onto a stand-in in a new Robocop body, say he got an upgrade and then go as hard as possible with all the super tech possibilities.
