Deadline is reporting that Sony Pictures will be distributing MGM‘s Robocop. Which is a remake of the 1987 film that was directed by Paul Verhoeven and starred Peter Weller. The remake will star Joel Kinnaman, who is best known for his work in
The Killing.
The remake will be directed by acclaimed Brazilian filmmaker Jose Padilha, who is best known for his two
Elite Squad films. They were huge box office hits. He blended satire with action seamlessly, two components that are crucial for
Robocop to become successful.
So I dig the director, but to be honest I don't care for the new Alex Murphy. I'll give the guy a shot, but Joel Kinnaman hasn't show me much of anything. I actually thought his acting was so poor in
Safe House that he elevated Ryan Reynolds to acceptable. And of course people tell me how great he is in
The Killing, and I'm gonna make sure I watch at least a few episodes so that I judge him properly.
