Sony Will Distribute ROBOCOP Remake

Sony and MGM are teaming up again, as MGM is still recovering from a planned restructuring after their bankruptcy from a few years ago. The two companies have recently partnered up for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, 21 Jump Street and Skyfall.

Deadline is reporting that Sony Pictures will be distributing MGM‘s Robocop. Which is a remake of the 1987 film that was directed by Paul Verhoeven and starred Peter Weller. The remake will star Joel Kinnaman, who is best known for his work in The Killing.

The remake will be directed by acclaimed Brazilian filmmaker Jose Padilha, who is best known for his two Elite Squad films. They were huge box office hits. He blended satire with action seamlessly, two components that are crucial for Robocop to become successful.

So I dig the director, but to be honest I don't care for the new Alex Murphy. I'll give the guy a shot, but Joel Kinnaman hasn't show me much of anything. I actually thought his acting was so poor in Safe House that he elevated Ryan Reynolds to acceptable. And of course people tell me how great he is in The Killing, and I'm gonna make sure I watch at least a few episodes so that I judge him properly.

I am interested in this. Seems like we might be able to squeeze in so much more satire in people's faces regarding current standards. I'll laugh my @$$ off.
Oh and please include a scene of a goon getting covered in chemicals, priceless!!

And it's funny how I still can't seem to find a [frick] to give about the remake, much less the original...

I don't see how it matters who plays Robocop. Its the rest of the cast that should be worried about. Not the one guy who wears a helmet over his face and moves like a robot the whole time. You know how people use the term "robotic" to describe a bad actor? There ya go.

@nailbiter111: don't bother with THE KILLING. That show tries to do what David Lynch was told he couldn't do by studio executives with TWIN PEAKS, and that is, never really name the killer. The acting and story is so flat and listless that after a few episodes you will quickly forget the show even exists. Every time that show seemed like it was just about to get going and pick up it's pulse it always came to a sudden disconcerting stop. If you're picky like me (and I know you are), stick with BREAKING BAD
