Quite a few people were surprised when the full title for "Star Trek 2" was revealed to be Star Trek Into Darkness. I think many were expecting the usual Star Trek: Insert Generic Subtitle Here. But it seems that was very nearly the case, as director J.J. Abrams reveals to MTV:

"There's an intimidating giant black ship in this thing called the 'USS Vengeance.' We talked about that word, vengeance," says director J.J. Abrams about alternate "Star Trek" titles.

Star Trek: Vengeance. I would have immediately hated it -- I'll take a trek into darkness over that any day! What do you guys think? Hopefully we'll get to hear a few more rejected titles at some point.
