Tonight on CBS and CBS All Access, the long awaited and much anticipated Star Trek: Discovery will finally premiere. While nothing much is known about the series - the review embargo lifts at the same time the show airs - the main title sequence to this new entry in the science-fiction franchise has been released.

The sequence and score put one in mind of HBO's recent Westworld's opening credits with the almost blueprint like construction and display of inconography from the show. It's interesting to note that this is the first Star Trek show to recieve an instrumental theme since 1995's Star Trek: Voyager.

There's something affecting about seeing not only an extended main title sequence, but also just knowing that a new Star Trek show is here, and if the quality of the opening is anything to go by what follows should be worth the wait.

Star Trek: Discovery will air September 24, 2017 on CBS and CBS All Access and then every week after exclusively on CBS All Access in the US and on NETFLIX around the world.

Standard artsy modern day orchestral opening, like Westworld, Game of Thrones, Daredevil, Defnders etc.

Looks beautiful

Looks fake. Doesn't seem that well executed and there is no inclusion of any of the cast or crews names. Is this actually legit? I like the concept but seems to need a lot of polishing.

Had hoped the music would be better, something like The Next Generation.

Intro is ok, the most notable bit being the two astronauts hands positioned in a way that reflects religious imagery - the idea that man has become god via space travel (by representing both sides)

I love the music. But I expect little from the show.

...Cool idea, but underwhelming. Particularly the music.
No doubt the show will be good, but I loathe mediocre scores to big franchise-based films.

So...how is this set in the prime timeline? Holograms instead of viewscreens in the 2250s? The Klingon basically invented cloaking technology well ahead of the Romulans? Everything about this fits perfectly with the Kevlin-alternate timeline. The tech would've evolved faster, and the Klingons had Nero (a Romulan and his 24th century ship) in their custody for 25 years. Nothing fits in line with the prime timeline. Just admit it was made for the JJ-verse. This is an insult to Trek fans to say the continuity is in line with 50 years of Star Trek.
