We're almost to the end of my "Star Trek Saturday" series, and now after a long uphill climb, we've reached the J.J. Abram's Trek movies.

Let's be real. Before 2009, Star Trek was on life support. After the abysmal attempts of Insurrection and Nemesis, people were losing interest in the franchise. Then came Star Trek: Enterprise, a short lived TV show that tried to revive faith back in Star Trek but it lacked the interesting characters of previous shows and movies. So after the show fizzled out, it seemed like nobody (besides Trekkies) cared about Star Trek anymore. That was, until Lost screenwriter J.J. Abrams was given almost ulimited creative control over the reboot. At the time he was known for his writing on Lost & Alias, but as a director the only thing he'd done was Mission Impossible III. Paramount put a lot of faith into the new director and it absolutely paid off.

Star Trek was a massive hit, and it was the shock treatment needed to bring the franchise back to life. Though many die hard Trekkies will tell you that this reboot is "not the trek they grew up with", they have to admit that it did make Star Trek a household name again. Full review below:
