J.J. Abrams, who is currently immersed in a galaxy far, far away writing and directing
Star War: Episode IX, is reportedly also shopping around a sci-fi space drama for television.
According to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, both Apple and HBO - where Abrams serves as an executive producer on
Westworld - are both in the running for the untitled drama. Producers Warner Bros. Television is also open to additional bidders as well.
The report provides a brief overview of the project:
"Sources say the Abrams drama is about a family — consisting of a mother who works as a scientist, her husband and their young daughter — who all get into a terrible car crash. After the mother winds up in a coma, her daughter begins digging through her experiments in the basement and winds up being transported to another land amid a world's battle against a monstrous, oppressive force. Her father then follows her into this new world."
Abrams has penned the script for the series which would be the first he has created since 2008's Fringe.
Star Wars: Episode IX is slated to hit theaters December 20, 2019.
