3D Work Done on Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace

With Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace coming back into theaters next February a source has said that the 3D conversion for the film has concluded and that George Lucas has signed off on it.

The Saga begins again by coming back to theaters this February and its coming back in 3D. Sources have told Bleeding Cool that the 3D conversion for Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace is completed and ready to go. They are also saying that George Lucas has given his approval on the 3D conversion.

I’ve just had a quick chat with Matt Bristowe, Head of Production at stereo house Prime Focus after the “big” 3D debate at Empire Big Screen. He’s confirmed for me that all work is complete on the 3D version of Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace.

Yeah, i'll get the Blu Ray collection pack but i'm sure as hell not going in theaters, spending 20$ a pop to see movies that are already migrane inducing enough as it is without the 3D.

The only reason I wanna see any of these in theaters is the hope to get the experience people had in the films first runs, when I was either not born or too young.

GazelTGM- Well... i'm a collector, what can i say. I've always wanted to get the original trilogy on Blu-Ray but my kids will surely want to see the prequel trilogy too. So the Blu Ray pack will be two birds with one stone. But 20$ for ONE sitting through Phantom Menace in 3D no less is just overkill for me.

Then you are a fool, the two are incredibly different. One is a masterpiece the other is about how many lightsabers and fake looking aliens they can fit on the screen in one frame.

I don't care. I'm a Star Wars fan, and I will be till I die. No matter how flawed and horrible the prequel may be to some, they're still part of my favorite movie saga.

I must be the only person on the earth who actually really enjoyed the prequels. Sure they're not as good story-wise as the original trilogy, but I still love 'em (except the dialogue in Attack Of the Clones was REALLY hit-and-miss). Then again, I'm such a big Star Wars fan I'll enjoy nearly anything the franchise puts out (yes, even the Clone Wars movie).

Jerseysportsbullies: You want to feel the experience people had when they saw Star Wars in teathers at the first time? Well, if you really want to do this, then you must put that movie in that period perspective.

Rent or download some old movies and TV shows from the 1970´s: CHiPs, The Love Boat, Columbo, Kojak, Star Trek, etc.

Then go watch Star Wars and have the blast of your life.

Lucas was much better when he had less tools at his fingertips. I honestly don't blame him for milking it. I dont think he has anything in him. Disney also brings out Disney films ever X years to the theaters. Like him or not, Lucas made MAJOR advances in film technology. Movies today wouldnt be anywhere as technically advanced as they are today if it wasnt for him. Sure hollywood movie makers need to go back and rediscover story telling again but the tools are there.

@knight3000 ummmmm have you seen a new hope through return of the Jedi? The correct order to watch them is 4,5,6 then 1,2,3. Why? Pretty simple "Obi Wan never told you what happened to your father..." watch them in any other order and assuming you dont know how it goes you would ruin one of the most classic momments in movie history for yourself.

That was the lamest thing I ever heard. Having grown up with those movies seeing the prequels first would just be completely retarded. I think the notion of seeing the prequels first is the kiddies point of view out there. Might as well watch the Planet of the apes where the apes go back in time to modern day then go watch the first made movie. Why not? In thr time line the apes went back first so thats the correct order. Who cares if it ruins the emotinonal and story impact. Geeesh you silly kiddies

Who cares if a character is suprised. The viewer ie the one being told the story is what maters most. Besides continuity???? There is what an almost 20 year gap between 3 and 4

I think dissing the new trilogy is part of the maturing process on teens.

Same thing with comics. Comic fans from the 1990´s loved Jim Lee´s X-men, McFarlane´s Spiderman and all of the Image comics thing. Then, they grow older, and start to feel rebellious and try to challenge their "parents".
"1990´s suck" "mcFarlane sucks", etc.

That, and the fact that that enternaining don´t provoke the same dopamine release they felt at the same time.

In short, try to eat some pumpkin seeds and you´ll start to enjoy movies and comics again.

The should just go for a spin off like a boba fette movie for example.

The problems with 1,2,3 was casting. The kid in 4 was horrid. The first made movies they casted it as an ensemble the prequels it didnt seem like they did the same.

Also by far Empire was the best, anything that would muck that storyline up by knowing a major revelation in advance would be a crime.

A fun fact by the way. The whole thing with Lukes father wasn't conceived of until the Empire script. Pretty much that was why Kenobi had to use that " what I said was true from a certain point of view" line. That's Jedi speak for completely BSing someone (because of story arc changes)

Mrsinister- Where i'm at, movies are 10$ tax included. 3D is DOUBLE the price and Matinees are just three bucks cheaper. So ONE sitting of Jar Jar in 3D is way too expensive whether it's 15$, 17$ or 20$. It's just NOT worth the price. Oh and Tylenols aren't cheap here either.

They are prequels and the prequels was pretty much the telling of the back stories.

Im appalled at the pure laziness that Lucas has demonstrated ever since Revenge of the Sith back in 2005.....he could have been working on 7-9....and we probably would have been pleasantly surprised with them knowing that Hayden Christensen wouldnt be in them. Oh well....

I won't go to the theater for this. I have the DVD (owned the VHS first) and will likely get teh Blu-Ray set.

I'm sorry, but as HUGE a fan as I was of Star Wars, it's kind of becoming a joke.

Continuity isnt really broken watching them in the order they were made. They were made in the order they were for a reason. Given watching them in the order they were made wouldn't ruin any plot points and watching them based on numbers would it seems its best to watch it in the order it doesnt ruin any plot points, ie the order they were made in.

I am not spending a single dime on anything this guy puts out anymore. After the lifeless, heartless regurgitation that was the prequels he can periodically go and screw himself. I'll stick with the original trilogy that prominently changed the world.

How will Mr. Lucas sit to watch his movies wearing solid gold overalls? Silly me, those are just for when company comes over. Most likely he'll be wearing Tracy Jordan's money shirt and solid gold shoes to go with his solid gold 3-D Glasses with platinum diamond lenses held in place by hand picked, elite oompah loompas for the best viewing possible. During intermission he'll be drinking unicorn milk and lighting his Cuban cigars kept in panda fur liners with a special phoenix that bursts into flame when he pulls its tail. Do we really need to feel like Jar Jar is right there with us and not be able to take a swing at him?

And given how great 3D looks with animation, one can only imagine how beautiful Revenge of the Sith would look, given that it's mostly CGI, no matter how many people hated the movie.
