Carrie Fisher Says She'll Play Princess Leia "Less British" In STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

The actress has gotten in trouble for talking about returning as Leia for J.J. Abrams' new Star Wars movie in the past, so she's understandably a bit more cagey in this new interview. But, she does share he thoughts on the character and reveals her favorite Leia moment from the trilogy.

Carrie Fisher made a guest appearance at the Hay festival in Wales recently, and answered a few Star Wars related questions -- without spilling too many details of course. But now that it's been officially announced that she'll be joining fellow original trilogy cast members Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford in J.J. Abrams' tentatively titled Star Wars: Episode VII, she can at least discuss her excitement about returning..in her own unique way! "We all look a little melted. It's good to see other melted people," Fisher told a packed audience at the festival. "And it is good to have us all in a room because it's unique. I mean, I don't suppose they have reunions for the Gone With The Wind gang.". She also says she intends to play the character "less British" this time around. You may remember that Fisher affected a pretty noticeable Brit accent in the first film, but it had all but vanished by Return Of The Jedi.

"We are doing it over again so I can get Princess Leia right this time. I think less British. I looked a little pretentious faking the accent. It was sort of a viral accent – it came and went. I would rather have played Han Solo. When I first read the script I thought that's the part to be, always wry and sardonic. He's always that. I feel like a lot of the time Leia's either worried or pissed or, thank God, sort of snarky. But I'm much more worried and pissed than Han Solo ever was, and those aren't fun things to play."

Fisher is asked a few more questions but aside from suggesting that it'll be very unlikely that we'll see Leia sport that now iconic hairdo again, she isn't willing to spill. But, she does talk about that famous scene in which she strangles Jabba the Hutt. "I had a lot of fun. They asked me on the day if I wanted to have a stunt double kill Jabba. No! That's the best time I ever had as an actor. And the only reason to go into acting is if you can kill a giant monster.". More at the link below.

@batzack: no we don't, unless we do it with a "British" accent.. I think Fisher was trying to sound like a princess and a leader in Episode IV, so she thought enunciating her words made her British

In A New Hope she sounded British...ish, I suppose. But only when she was having that convo with Tarkin did I hear any type of British influence.

I remember a slight accent. Its mostly when she's berating Vader and Han. It`s the tone she uses. I always thought of it as a snobby royalty speech.
