Darth Vader Actor Dismisses STAR WARS Prequel Trilogy

Dave Prowse (The Empire Strikes Back & Return of The Jedi) speaks out about the prequel trilogy of films in the Star Wars saga.

As many of you may know, Darth Vader was voiced by James Earl Jones, but was played by Dave Prowse, a British actor.

When speaking about the film, Prowse said, "I didn't like Star Wars I, II and III at all. I think the common opinion now is they were really bad movies. There's no comparison with the original movies. They had a much more believable story."

Prowse states that [SPOILERS FOR A 30 YEAR OLD MOVIE] while Vader is dead, he wouldn't mind coming back as a new character, stating how "it would be nice to come back and do another character, because no one's ever seen my face. I was never unmasked."

Would you guys like to see Dave return to Star Wars? Who could he play? Voice a droid perhaps?

Part 3 was pretty great. It's basically George Lucas "Lion King: Origins" with Scar as the main character, but still pretty great.

Just letting you know, the thumbnail is not of David Prowse. Prowse did the body, but someone else played the Anakin force ghost. I think his name is Sebastian Shaw, or something like that.

Episode 3 was pretty good, but I guess I agree with him on the other two. The acting in the first two was so wooden that it's impossible to really get into the story.

i love all the movies..the only thing i dont like is when lucas added hayden christianson(spell check?..lol) as the vader ghost in jedi..i liked the old man vader ghost..its just wrong for him to be a young ghost..and greedo did not shoot first..other than those parts i liked the movies..but yeah Maul should never have been killed..too great of a character

Sour grapes anyone? Prowse was ticked that it wasn't his face shown in Return of the Jedi (either when Luke removes Vader's mask or as the force ghost) and was probably ticked that they put Hayden in the suit at the end of Sith instead of asking him to do it again. I've heard he was ticked about it not being his voice as Vader too. Basically, he was a glorified stunt actor, so his opinion means nothing to me.

There's no sour grapes there. I met David late last year, as he is a good friend of a colleague. It was just after the star wars announcement and David advised that a few of the old cast are consulting on the new movies.

He also told us that the outline was about skywalkers kids and one turning to the light and one to the dark. Whilst nothing too interesting, this was before the recent rumours, so there may be something to this.

Original trilogy is the best but there is much to enjoy in the others.

What's really only bad is all the stuff about the trade federation & the politics & the discussions with the Jedi Council..blah,blah,boring!

Just create cool characters & set up a good battle then let it roll!

Episode I was great. The only Star Wars movie that earned more than billion dollars...

Darth Farmer having a cameo in the new trilogy would be cool.

Lucas (ironically) is the perfect analogy to Vader. He (to all intensive purposes) BECAME just like Vader self-absorbed and domineering in his vision, lost focus, ignored others over the franchise's story and art direction and basically screwed over the potential of what Star Wars should of become.
Dermot Powers begged him to go with an eastern-inspired Sith Witch with dual curved handled lightsabers (which eventually became the Asaaj Ventress character) - he ignored that art direction for EP:2 and has ignored the talent around him that has advised him on other stuff which would of made the Star Wars prequel far better than they eventually turned out. Lucas wanted TOTAL control and paid the price when the trilogy decended into a childish, humourless whiny bitchfest about Anakin with shit characters like Jar-Jar.

I have respect for his original concept, but other directors have made better Star Wars films (ESB) and far better stories have come from the likes of Bioware writers: (KoTOR).

Hopefully Star Wars away from Lucas and his stupid 'Lucas Approved franking stamp' (he used to march around the art department stamping shit he liked as 'approved') - will mean that EP: VII will (hopefully) be a hell of a lot better.

After saying so about the second trilogy, there's no place for him in the new movies!

Eh, there's no real reason why he can't have some small background part. Warwick Davis got to come back in TPM and Lucas inserted himself and his kids into one of them (II or III, forget which), so, as long as it's something like that, I don't see the big deal...

Anyone hating the prequels simply MUST SEE this youtube video entitled: "The (Totally) Phantom Menace" - Its absolute genius and shows just how incredibly bad the prequel fight scenes where to laughable extent:

@SimyJo - I've seen it before, but I'd forgotten about it and it's still hilarious. :)
