At D23 today, Lucasfilm announced that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has begun principal photography. Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards is directing the movie which "tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star." The full cast has also been officially announced, and that consists of Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk (as a motion capture character), and Riz Ahmed. We'd heard about some of those, but there are a couple of new additions listed above. Either way, that's one hell of a cast for this Star Wars movie.
"Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe," says Kathleen Kennedy. "It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know. Gareth is such an innovative director and I’m so excited to be working with him and the extraordinary ensemble cast he’s selected for ‘Rogue One.'" A full list of the crew members who have now joined Rogue One can be found by clicking on the link below. It's an impressive group, that's for sure!
