Has Luke Skywalker Been Written Out Of STAR WARS EPISODE VII?

That's one explanation for the following anyway: According to Sam L. Jackson, who is shooting a movie with Mark Hamill, J.J. Abrams has not been in contact with the former Jedi about returning to the franchise. Click on and see what you make of all this.

This is coming from a third party so make of it what you will, but Samuel L. Jackson appeared on David Letterman's Late Show last night and the host quizzed him about the new Star Wars movies, and whether he'd be returning. Jackson -- who played Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy and is now shooting a movie with Hamill -- reveals that he spoke to the former Luke Skywalker about it and he told him that J.J. Abrams has not been in contact with him about reprising the role (you can watch the video Here.) Now we know that Lucasfilm were in touch with Hamill before Abrams was even announced as director; so it would seem, at least, that it was always the plan to have him return to the Luke role -- but could that have all changed when original writer Michael Arndt was replaced on script duties by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan? Even if Luke hasn't been written out, it is a little strange that the director (now writer and producer) of a movie which is scheduled to shoot pretty soon hasn't so much as had a conversation with one of its stars. Of course, another explanation is that Hamill is simply playing coy about the whole thing and didn't want to leak any info to Jackson, who not long ago blabbed about Elizabeth Olsen signing on as Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron! What do you guys think?

He doesn't need to be in it. None of the elders need to be in it. Reference them, if anything, and that's all.

I really don't know. In the spirit of all things Lucas he could have just asked everyone to stay super quiet about everything. To be honest I don't know when Luke dies but if they have Ford signed on for a 2 movie deal they have to have the Jedi it wouldn't make sense but I have faith, but hey I liked the prequels. I mean its what Lucas wanted and its his effin story, good or bad either you like it or you dont

They would be freaking idiots if they didn't have Hamill make a cameo appearance or have a minor role. We're talking about the return of Star Wars. Stories set AFTER the Original Trilogy. I think Jackson is just bsing.

I don't understand the secrecy about casting. I mean is it so hard to say that an Actor or actress is in the movie? You don't even have to say what character that person is playing in most cases.

So, is it going to be Star Wars: Legacy? I loved that series, but I want to see Leia, Luke and Han! That's what I thought we were getting. If they have Han and Leia and no Luke, [frick] this movie.

Man I hope this ain't true! I really hope Ford and Fischer come back, but if ANYONE deserves a chance to reprise his classic role - it's MARK HAMILL! The guy got totally screwed and has been there for fans for so many years - give the guy some goddamn Star Wars Hollywood spot light again! He's a talented guy - he deserves his role back.

Sounds like shit. They announced this and have had little to no major announcements since JJ was hired and I'm having less faith in this than if Lucas was directing.

Not only do I not believe it, I also think it's okay if it's true. Star Wars is a diverse universe, and I'd like to see different sides of it. To be honest, I'd prefer it if this movie didn't have Jedi or lightsabers because I'm honestly getting tired of all the Jedi stuff.

The way I feel, this sequel won't even feel right to me if Hamill, Fisher, and Ford don't return. I'm assuming it's going to be about their children, seeing as that is the only logical way to connect the trilogies together. And if it is about their children, then the original three need to return. I hope all of this is just speculation because Luke, Leia, and Han all three need to at least be in Episode VII (I'm crossing my fingers for Billy Dee back as Lando with Nicole Beharie playing his daughter or Michael B Jordan/Chadwick Boseman playing his son).

IMO, it's a tricky situation. Having Luke there in some capacity would be great. However, I really don't feel like Mark Hamill has aged into what we'd want an older Luke Skywalker to be. I'm not sure I could take him seriously in an Obi-wan like role. At the same, time, it'd feel a bit weird to have someone else playing Luke. Neither situation is very good the way I see it. Might be best to not have him or save him for a small force ghost cameo that would shock and delight us.

All of this hate when people literally know nothing about the films, the stories or the actual studio-announced casting? No wonder people says that commenters on website comment boards are whiners and out of touch. Jeez, wait till you know something is concrete first before you go off.

The video IS the source, and was posted by a contributor so I didn't want to repost, which is why I linked to it instead. But I must ask, good sire, if you didn't read the article, how can you have any opinion on how it was written?

Hmmmmm?

Hamill is doing a film with Jackson? Damn. That's news all on its own. But anyway....

Any STAR WARS episode following the original trilogy without the original cast of main characters is a STAR WARS film I won't be paying to see.

If this is true, there better be a good reason.
