John Boyega Reveals Who He Would Like To See Finn End Up With In STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

In both the original Star Wars trilogy and the prequels, a romantic subplot was a large part of its story and character dynamics, with Han and Leia in the former and Padme and Anakin in the latter. This new Star Wars trilogy, though about a great many things, has yet to touch upon the romantic interactions of our main characters.

Coming out of The Force Awakens, it was one of the things that many found refreshing but it also didn't stop fans from speculating about future relationships for our new protagonists: Finn and Rey, with every possible combination emerging.

Rather surprisingly, Finn and Poe seemed to be the most desired pairing. That possibility was further spurred on with director JJ Abrams confirming that LGBT characters will be included in future Star Wars films.  Last year's The Last Jedi ,however, split up Oscar Isaac's resistance fighter and Boyega's ex-Stormtrooper and so neither that (or indeed his other claim) came to fruition.

In fact, the Rian Johnson helmed film seemed to indicate that it would be Rose Tico and not Rey or Poe that Finn might develop a relationship with and that Rey would perhaps redeem and form a bond with Kylo Ren. All of this is still up in the air and we won't know definitively until Episode IX hits our screens next year.

In an interview with /Film's Ben Pearson, John Boyega spoke about this very topic and who he would like to see Finn wind up with in the end:

The Force Awakens didn’t feature a romantic relationship between Finn and Rey, and I think a lot of people loved that. But it seems like those same fans now really want to see Finn in a romance, whether it’s with Rey or Rose –

[Both at the same time]: – or Poe.

Boyega: Or Chewbacca, or anyone. You guys are going savage! [laughs]

[laughs] Why do you think that is, and who would you like to see Finn end up with?

Boyega: Because Finn is the one character, for me, who has a distinct, unique relationship with everybody. He had this kind of banterous relationship with Han, then he has this loving relationship with Rey. Now with Rose, it feels like he has this great relationship. Personally? Rey. Yeah, Rey.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Boyega chooses the trilogy's heroine and his dear friend Rey as the person he would like to see Finn end up with, though he also reveals that he has yet to speak to writer and director JJ Abrams about the upcoming final entry in the Star Wars sequel trilogy so anything can happen.

Who would you like to see Finn pair up with? Would you like to see our two main heroes fall in love? Or is Boyega and Oscar Isaac’s chemistry too strong to ignore? And what about Rose or Kylo? Leave your thoughts below.
