Listen to Kevin Smith at a film festival in Neuchatel, Switzerland give details of his experience on the Star Wars: Episode VII set in England, including stepping into the interior of the Millenium Falcon.

The guy told me they took two blueprints—Star Wars & Empire, because the cockpit in Empire—never knew this before, the cockpit in Empire was bigger than the cockpit in Star Wars. So they went somewhere between the two.

Though unable to fully talk about what he saw on the set, he has postive things to say about J.J. Ambram's Star Wars sequel, and what he's doing right in this movie which weren't done in the prequels:

As I walked up that ramp, I realized something was missing from those other movies—and it’s now in these movies. And it’s not the obvious of like “Hey! The Millennium Falcon” or “Hey! The characters that we know, who are returning” It’s—It’s something else entirely. He’s building a tactile world, a world you can touch. And he’s replicating it with all the love of somebody who has got the greatest collection of Star Wars figures.

Check out the full Q and A here, Episode VII stuff at about 35 minutes in:

So has Kevin Smith actually made a good movie in the past few years, or has he just been sitting on the John making more podcasts about stuff in his life nobody cares about?

Yeah, mentioned those two because they were his most notable within the last few years, 'Tusk' sounds alright but I actually like listening to his commentary and podcasts more so than his directing these days.

I'm going to be frank...I've never heard of Red State. The only Smith movie I've heard of is Bad Cop with Bruce Willis and how much he hated working with him.

I want to know something else; what exactly does he have to do with comicbookmovies anyway, aside from being a fan?

He wrote a 'Green Arrow' run that was pretty decent.

Smith actually owns his own comic book store.
I don't think any actor, director or other film related person featured on this site owns a comic book store.

Actually I only think his first film Clerks is okay, the rest are pretty much crap.
Zach & Miri is tolerable because Elizabeth Banks is great.

At some point Kevin Smith needs to write / direct a good film.
His comic book writing is mediocre at best,as a super fan & voice of comic book culture,he needs to step up his quality.

@TheGoddamnPeel

Not only does he own the comic book store that AMC's Comic Book Men takes place in, he's a producer of the show, a comic book writer (currently he's writing Batnan meets the Green Hornet for DC) but he's a director who's films are very much inspired by his live for comics.

The story about his wife and many other candid stuff can be seen/heard on the Evening With DVDs.

I've been a fan since clerks. I actually enjoy his commentaries and the Evenings more than his actual movies, but still enjoy them. I never saw Cop Out though and just haven't tried Red State. I like his dumb dick and fart comedies. People like Apatow have come along and done it better but still.

And he has plenty of comic book cred. He has written for both DC and Marvel as well ad doing the Superman script that Tim Burton almost did.

I was under the impression that we would be getting excerpts from the interview where he talks about boning his wife...

Mallrats and Chasing Amy were the only good films this guy made. Clerks is verbal masturbation. Dogma was plain stupid. Everything from there just continually got worse.

So Kevin Smith likes drawing attention to himself by making comments about upcoming films. If you could roll off the face of the earth and disappear, that would be great Kevin.
