Back in 2003 a private U.S. collector purchased the full Darth Vader outfit from 1980's Star Wars classic The Empire Strikes Back.

Thought to be the first complete Vader outfit to hit the auction block, it was put up for bid at Christie's last Thursday. Even though a spokesperson for the auction house had priced the costume at $340,000 the bidding war never quite ignited.

The famous costume remains in the possession of the auction house after bidding peaked at $236,000, a number that falls short of the confidential reserve price.

Hawksblueyes: How much would you be willing to spend on Darth Vader's costume if finances were not an issue? What do you consider a fair price?

I wouldn't buy that to save my life. Seriously, love Vader and all but i guess i'm not of the memorabilia type.

Well...

John Wesly Shipp's The Flash costume on the other hand... NOW we're talking ;)

Intruder: Thats what I'm talking about. Like Shaman stated I'm not a big memorabilia nut. But like you, I find it hard to beleive that with all the outlandish prices movie memorabilia goes for at auction, there was not a rich Star Wars freak with his pocket book at the ready.

I don't think there is a much bigger slice of memorabilia than an original Vader costume. Maybe a slave Leia sex doll.

One day if I win the Powerball I would probably go 400-500K on it.

Hawks- Surely you mean an actual slave Leia LOL I don't recall any sex dolls being in Star Wars LOL But yeah, a Vader suit is probably as good as it gets except for maybe the actual Death Star maquette they used in the films. Or the mechanical Yoda puppet they used.

If I purchased that DV costume for $350,000 dollars I would set TWO GOALS:

1. I would want to wear it during group sex with three HOT lesbians!

2. They'd have to bury me in it. Or Cremate me in it, in the forest like at the end of JEDI! Sweet. :)

Sh*t, for 350 G's, I wants my moneys worth! :D

Shaman: While the Genuine article Slave Leia would definitely be worth it for a while, I think the sex doll Slave Leia has two advantages.

1. You wouldn't have to worry about her strangling you with her chains while you were sleeping.

2. The doll never ages and you don't have to feed it. =D

Hawks- Good points. Although Carrie Fisher is a milf, i'm sure she doesn't look as good in that suit as she did in the movie. And i'm also sure that if you did ask her to put it on today, she actually would strangle you with those chains LMAO ;P

I'm not really into collectables or memorabelia so wouldnt even be willing to spend a few hundred on something like this, lol! Can think of a lot of better things to do with $236,000 anyway regardless of how much I love this movie. Good stuff HAWKS! :)

I don't know....the Ultimate Edition Vader costume is pretty close so I think I woud just cough up $700-800 for that and be pretty happy. Also at that price you're not afraid to use it.

Before George Lucas and his prequels ruined Star Wars, and especially Darth Vader, I would have paid whatever it took. Now? Not a penny.

@ROMACK - I'm happy with my $40 Vader costume from Party City! I've worn it several times, for Halloween, not any other time, because that would be weird, right?

evil1rox - 11/27/2010, 11:31 PM
Considering the original movies were made on a shoestring budget.. sn't 250K MORE THAN ENOUGH for a costume...?

-I mean it wasn't like he banged Leia in the suit...
