Producer Bryan Burk Talks STAR WARS: EPISODE VII And STAR TREK 3

Speaking with Digital Spy at a screening of some Star Trek Into Darkness footage, producer Bryan Burk of Bad Robot talks about both a potential third installment and Star Wars: Episode VII, the latter of which will be directed by frequent collaborator J.J. Abrams. He confirms that talks about a third Trek have occurred, but there hasn't been any discussion about a release date when asked if a 2016 50th anniversary date was possible. "We're definitely talking about the next one, but we haven't talked about a release date. We don't want to wait four years, the same amount of time between the last one and this one, but it's going to be a big year to celebrate, hopefully."

He also had this to say about balancing both Star Trek and Star Wars, confirming that both projects are completely different. "Yeah. Obviously they're completely different universes, they're completely different films. The only thing in common is the word 'Star', which is why we're going to do the Ringo Starr movie as well. We'll corner the market!" This should be good news for those who were worried about both franchises under the same creative team. Finally, Burk comments on any potential casting, with recent comments from George Lucas basically confirming that Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford will all return. "We're very new to the process. We've only been on the movie a few weeks. The script we're still working on with the writers and Kathleen Kennedy, who's a genius. It's hard for me to comment on anything. We're still figuring things out." Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters May 17th. Star Wars: Episode VII is targeting a 2015 release.

Where's that Star Wars logo from?
It's a shiny, new version looks like. Kinda neat.

So, I have a question, is that a new logo or something? It looks different and I don't remember it...

that star wars logo is way old, is from around the Star Wars power of the force toy line...like 15years ago

The most interesting thing about this to me is that the Avengers series is becoming, (or already is) this generation's Star Wars... And it's exciting that a new and improved creative team are trying to get Star Wars to also be this generation's Star Wars! Exciting stuff

(did you get that?)

Shiverman20...Dont ever compare Star Wars to the Avengers again. Star Wars is that girl way out of that nerdy Avengers league.

I've wondered about that Logo change as well. I don't think it's that old as I had never seen it before comming to this site. The Power of the Force line used the regular logo on the packaging so I don't know unless it was on some obscure promo banner I'm not aware of.

How many writers are there? Besides Michael Arndt?

I know there are other writers for the spin-offs.
