Saoirse Ronan Spills Some Details Of Her STAR WARS Audition

The young actress has spoken to Empire about her recently confirmed audition for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars Episode VII, and although she's still coy about who she read for, she does reveal that she got to have some fun pretending to wield a lightsaber! Read on for more..

Saoirse Ronan was a guest on the Empire podcast this week, and on top of a variety of other subjects, she was (of course) asked about her audition for Star Wars Episode VII. The Irish actress doesn't spill TOO much, but what she does say is pretty interesting.

“Yeah, I did [audition for Star Wars Episode VII]… I don’t know whether I should have said that now! I mean, everyone did. Everyone has auditioned for it. So many people I know have gone in for the part I’ve gone in for, and guys who’ve gone in for a particular part, so I’d imagine J.J. is probably just scanning the earth to find the people that he needs. But nobody has a clue what it’s about, and nobody’s read the script. So I’ve gone in and read for it, but I have to say, I think it’s the only time I’ve ever thought, ‘You know what? Even if I don’t get it, I had so much fun auditioning, pretending to take out a lightsaber – out of a bag, kind of inspect it and not know what it is. That was… that was great. A lightsaber! Star Wars!”

So, can we assume that whatever character she's reading for takes out a lighsaber and inspects it at some point in the movie? Actually, not even that! It may well just have been a random action the actors were told to perform for the audition. Still, you never know! It's also interesting that Abrams is casting such a wide net to fill these roles...has anyone in a certain age bracket NOT read for this? You can listen to the podcast in full below.

I'm really interested to know what role she was auditioning for. Leia's daugter, another Jedi, or a Sith?

Either way, she's a really good actress. If she gets the part, and if the DDL rumor is true, then my trust for Disney will go up tremendously.

El Mayimbe reported this first. So it's bullshit. Who cares if the information was right. I don't like him, so anything he says isn't true to me.

Please, please let there be a genuinely good screenplay.

I'd love to see her in a villainous role.
But she'd be great as one of the leads. Either way, she needs to be in this.

She'd make a good Tahiri from the EU novels. Couldn't see her as Jaina.

If I was her, I'd prefer to play Scarlet Witch because everyone is going to judge Star Wars VII a lot and they will compare it with the original trilogy and we all know that the original trilogy will always be the best, no matter what. On the contrary, if she joined Avengers they wouldn't compare her with anyone since nobody has played Wanda again and AoU has the potential to be even better than the first Avengers, because history shows that the second film of a trilogy is usually the best (TDK, Spider-Man 2, X2...)

@TDP, I keep hearing her name in reference to A:AoU's Scarlet Witch. Was she actually being considered for the role or is this fancasting?

@beto exceptions :P I did say USUALLY!

@Enphlieuwince there were some rumors that Marvel wanted an actress that looked like her for Scarlet Witch. She said that she would love to be in the movie, I don't know if she casted because a month later they started talking about Elizabeth Olsen.

@beto There's something very Star Wars about the character Daenerys Targaryen. Plus Emilia Clarke could pass for a daughter of Leia/granddaughter of Padmé with her natural hair colour.

So wait... The character finds a lightsaber, but doesn't know what it is? Interesting... I guess Luke didn't rebuild the Order to Prequel levels, then? If so, good!

Thanks @TDP! The little research I did says she turned down the role. Either way, it's a shame because, she looks like she could truly pass for ATJ's twin/sibling and I'm sure she'd probably having a pretty convincing English accent.
bonesmcgee
bonesmcgee - 10/5/2013, 5:52 PM
@Enphlieuwince Well she is Irish (was born in Brooklyn however, but moved back when she was 3). So she can do an English accent easily, and has in the past. It's almost rare to hear her normal Irish accent on film actually.

Well, we can maybe rule out a Solo/Skywalker child... I really doubt they'd look at a lightsaber like they don't know what it is o_0

@Enphlieuwince I agree with you, she really looks like ATJ! I guess she was to young. Anyway,I trust Marvel at casting choices, they always find the perfect actors for the roles!
