STAR WARS: Daisy Ridley Is Reportedly Pushing For John Boyega To Return As Finn In NEW JEDI ORDER Movie

There have long been rumblings John Boyega could reprise his role as Finn in the upcoming Star Wars movie featuring Daisy Ridley, but a new rumour suggests both the actress and Lucasfilm want him back...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker strongly hinted that Finn might be a Jedi in the making, but never really followed up on that. The Force Awakens saw him abandon his past as a Stormtrooper to join the Resistance and The Last Jedi...well, it pretty much just repeated that arc.

Actor John Boyega has never shied away from criticising his character's arc over the course of the sequel trilogy but has seemed to soften a little in recent interviews, leading to speculation he may be interested in reprising the role.

The most likely place for that to happen, of course, will be in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's upcoming New Jedi Order movie featuring Daisy Ridley's return as Rey.

It's previously been reported that Boyega may be mulling over a return and LRM Online (via SFFGazette.com) is now reporting that, "insiders close to the studio suggest that the return of Finn could play a vital role in bridging the narratives of the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy and the upcoming project featuring Daisy Ridley’s character, Rey Skywalker."

Apparently, both Lucasfilm and Ridley are pushing for the actor to return as Finn, presumably meaning he could be a full-blown Jedi Knight when we next see him!

Damon Lindelof's version of this Star Wars movie was going to take us 60 years beyond the events of The Rise of Skywalker, with an elderly Rey featured in the movie (Helen Mirren was supposedly being eyed to potentially take over the role).

Since then, Lucasfilm has changed course, with the idea now being to pick up just 15 years after the Skywalker Saga ended. The focus will still be on Rey's new Jedi Order - and the threat which rises to take aim at it - but what isn't clear is whether Ridley will be the movie's lead or just a supporting character.

We're intrigued either way, particularly if Finn is indeed being thrown into the mix. However, going by recent comments from Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, this apparent sequel to the sequels is meant to set up a new era of storytelling, so it may be a one-and-done return for both Ridley and Boyega.

Stay tuned for more as we have it.

@AmazingFILMporg - lindelof was trying to do just that. Helen Mirren was being eyed for an elderly Rey as a side character role but Kennedy choked it and decided to go full Rey movie so Lindelof walked.

@AmazingFILMporg - too late now unfortunately, plus there’s a disconnect between the old school and the young ones who’ve grown up with the trash sequel trilogy for whom these are their Star Wars characters. My daughter will routinely pick one of the sequel movies to watch when it’s her pick for movie night - so whilst I feel like I’ve completely failed in my parental duties when that happens😂 the only way forward is to push forward with these characters, a complete disconnect of story doesn’t make financial, and I’d argue narrative, sense. Sure, it’d be nice if KK wasn’t involved, at all, but this movie almost certainly will make bank and has at least the possibility of being better, especially if it learns from the mistakes and successes that have come since ROS. I’m down with the possibility of a Jedi Finn. Fingers crossed for redemption, a new hope even.

@bobevanz - slight exaggeration there don’t you think? They lost a heap of fanBOYS maybe, but even most of them have probably watched a lot of the streaming shows. They will also have gained a heap of younger fans to replace them (no accounting for taste). I’d say a good chunk of us who hated how the sequels went will go see this as well, not speaking for you personally of course, because it’s Star Wars mate.

Just use new ideas and concepts and create a new IP at this stage, Star Wars has too much baggage and no core audience to target because Disney have successfully alienated everyone who liked it in some way or form.

Maybe it's time to just let the franchise rest, enjoy the good things and realize that corporations leeching off things we enjoy, showing them no respect or understanding, is not something that should be encouraged.

@Nightcrawler1 - Oh, you have completely failed in your parental duties, there's no doubting that. BUT, for as badly as you may have done, I have done far worse as I can't even get my 2 daughters interested in ANY SW movies and "Obiwan" barely held the interest of my oldest (6 years old at the time) because I managed to paint it as being all about a little princess who was kidnapped and rescued by the brave knight. So I tip my hat to you, good sir, as you have managed to accomplish FAR more from a parenting perspective than I have so far. But there's still time, there's still time...

@Nightcrawler1 - Yes it would be very interesting if John Boyagea as Finn would definitely be great addition to the Dasiy Ridley as Rey new movie but it would also be interesting even more if Finn becomes Rey's love interests. It was hinted at in the Force Awakening and if the writers would build back up that romance between them it would be great. But John Boyagea as Finn needs to comeback to be in Rey's new movie inorder for that to happen between Finn and Rey. Writers get Finn and Rey together romantically.

This time they will green screen him into random scenes even if he wasnt there before, just so he can yell REY!

So will Rey know he is force sensitive or is he going to wait until they are about to die only to not say anything when they survive

"Apparently, both Lucasfilm and Ridley are pushing for the actor to return as Finn, presumably meaning he could be a full-blown Jedi Knight when we next see him!"

So what they should've done in the last trilogy...is now being pushed as a "promise" for this upcoming trilogy.

You can go and [frick] yourselves.

John Boyega when Daisy asks him to come back to SW:

ROS was embarrassingly bad. Worse than the last Jedi. People blame TLJ for ROS being so bad but making Rey a palpatine and bringing him back after he was clearly dead and all the other terrible decisions the ROS made was not TLJ's fault.

KK and JJ [frick]ing suck🥲

@AmazingFILMporg - yupppp

Kathleen Kennedy killed the Star Wars IP. They’ve been regulated to [frick]ing Disney+ series which is WILD when you consider how massive the IP was until TLJ and ROS came out.

It amazes me to my very core how she even has a job still lol

@TheLobster - What do you mean how massive they were before? The sequel trilogy put more butts in seats than the originals did in 40 years.
