STAR WARS: Daisy Ridley Says She Struggled To Find Work Following THE RISE OF SKYWALKER's Release

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker wasn't a big hit with critics, and Daisy Ridley has now admitted that she struggled to find work in the months following the movie's release. Read on for further details.

Daisy Ridley became the new face of the Star Wars franchise after starring in the sequels, but after The Rise of Skywalker arrived in theaters, the actress admits that it wasn't easy to find work. In fact, before COVID-19 closed down Hollywood, she tells Entertainment Weekly that "nothing was coming through" in the months that followed the release of the Skywalker Saga finale.

"It was so sad to finish [Star Wars]," she tells the site. "When the film was released, I was like, 'Oh my God.' It was such a huge chapter. And, weirdly, the past few months of not having much. Obviously now it’s really nice to be working, but not having much [at the time] I feel like I processed the last five years."

"To be forced to slow down, it was good mentally for me because [Star Wars was] a big thing in my life," Ridley continued. "Weirdly, at the beginning of the year nothing was coming through. I was like, 'Aww! No one wants to employ me.'" The actress later noted that, "there were actually loads of things that I auditioned for at the beginning of the year and didn’t get any of them."

Ridley later explained that things did start to pick up a few months after The Rise of Skywalker was released, and she's since booked roles in video game Twelve Minutes, Baby Yaga, an animated movie for VR platform Oculus Quest, and an original Audible series, Islanders. None of those are major roles, of course, so has being part of Star Wars damaged her career in the same way it did Hayden Christensen's?

It's too soon to say, but the goodwill many fans and moviegoers had towards Ridley was sadly diminished somewhat due to the response to The Rise of Skywalker, a mostly disappointing finale.

Part of it would be because of typecasting but part of it would probably also be that every actor in these movies was wasted outside of Adam Driver. Hopefully her next few projects go well, she’s gonna team up w/ the Ready or Not directing duo which should be fun

@tmp3 - this is unfortunately what happened with mark hamill after the ot. Its why he went into primarily voice work.

@Origame - Now thinking of it, can't think of any main OT actors that went on to get consistent roles in big things besides Harrison Ford and Warwick Davis

@TheGrayGhost - yeah. Basically most who leave a big franchise like this struggle later on. Its less prominent now but we're even seeing it with daniel Radcliffe, who's been doing a lot of independent work. Sometimes they get lucky, like with christian bale, but not always.

Pretty must every actor and actress in the Sequels did solid jobs, it's just what they had to work with sucked. Same goes for Daisy, so it's too bad she cant find any work.

Also, does anyone know when Chaos Walking is supposed to come out? I know nothing about it, except for that Daisy and Tom Holland are in it (the reasom I'm looking forward to it)

Agreed. The material was all over the map and literally felt disconnected but they all did a great job with what they had. Even if it didn't take advantage of their skills. 🤷‍♂️

@MalesMarcel - I remember that Natalie Portman had the same problem. She is definitely a good actress but, after the Star Wars prelogy and her role as Padme Amidala, no one wanted to cast her because everyone thought she was a bad actress. She had a hard time reviving her career too.

@MalesMarcel - Good question. That's been as long of a delay as New Mutants.

Id suggest try voice acting, like outside of Harrison Ford, who from the original trilogy saw a seriously successful career. Ford had plenty, Cant think of anything Carrie Fisher did. Hamil didnt make a comeback until he got into voice acting.

Also, that game gave me an excuse to make this:

Although the trilogy only ended last year, a bit early to get worried

@WakandanQueen - Was anyone actually expecting this to be good, lol

@tmp3 - Weirdly, yes. I think a lot of it may have been Anya Taylor-Joy-related, though.

To my memory, the reactions to that first trailer were broadly pretty positive around here (even if the overall temperature on Fox is fairly cool around here). There was a hot minute back when they first started saying "demon bear" when even I thought there was a chance.

@Spock0Clock - Well... to each their own.
Taylor-Joy has a whole host of exciting projects lined up, at least, including The Northman, the new Edgar Wright film and (rumored) Mad Max: Furiosa, so New Mutants will just be a small road-block for her.

I liked her in Star Wars but she can't act. It suited her character to be wooden and awkward but then I saw her in Orient Express and she was just as bad. She has that permanent inane look on her face with every character she plays. She must be super rich now so it isn't all bad.

@MarvelousMarty - Given that she was a virtual unknown before Star Wars I doubt she was paid the millions that other “name” actors would get, even though Star Wars is a huge money making franchise.

I thought she was good throughout the trilogy despite her character getting screwed hard in TROS. Looking forward to what she can do outside of that.
