There have been whispers of a potential Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic adaptation at Lucasfilm since before The Force Awakens was released, but we've never really had anything solid to go on... until now.

Although she didn't specify whether it was a movie or a TV series for the Disney+ steaming service, while chatting to MTV News Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that they are "developing something to look at" based on the classic video games.


Set almost 4000 years before the formation of the Galactic Empire, KOTOR started out as a LucasArts game released in 2003, but there have since been a plethora of spinoff novels and comic books.

A live-action take is something fans have been hoping to see for many years, and it looks like they'll finally get their wish - although it sounds like things are only in the very early stages of development.

@GeneralZod - I don’t know about that. A war between Jedi and Sith would prove to be very expensive. Might need to be movies for this.

@TheUnworthyThor - I'm split for the first time ever. One the one hand this era of Star Wars really needs a massive blockbuster budget to really fully realize the grandeur and scope of those stories, but on the other hand there is just so much content and characters in the Old Republic era, it really needs a long form story telling platform like Game of Thrones uses to really flesh out the characters and story arcs. I think a Disney+ series with a huge budget is the best scenario for the Old Republic.

But let's hope it's more Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 and less The Old Republic. But I want it all. All the Old Republic goodies.

I also think it would be a dream come true if Dave Filoni made a cgi show in the style of The Clone Wars for Knights of the Old Republic.

Did anyone see that Entertainment Weekly article where Kathleen Kennedy said Rian Johnson is working closely with Benioff and Weiss to help plan out this next decade of Star Wars storytelling.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Yeah she says something along the same lines although I don’t think specifically that they are working close together. It’s just that I read that article says ago and a lot of this just reiterated the same things. Except Knights of the Old Republic!
