STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC Remake Is Reportedly In Active Development According To Insider

Fans have been desperate for a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake for a long time, and a reliable insider claims that the beloved video game is indeed being overhauled for current-gen consoles.

Knights of the Old Republic is still considered the best Star Wars video game ever released by many fans, and there's been chatter about a remake for several years now. Well, it may be one step closer to becoming a reality as Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has confirmed that a new version of the game is in the works.

In an interview with MinnMax's Ben Hanson, Schreier said, "I basically confirmed that Aspyr, which is a company that has ported a bunch of KOTOR games, is working on a remake."

This points to EA having little to no involvement with the project (which will come as a relief to some), and while we don't have an official announcement yet, it is as good as confirmed. Aspyr Media was recently acquired by THQ Nordic, and the Texas-based studio has recruited a number of BioWare employees. That is the original developer of the game, so it definitely bodes well for this remake.

With any luck, this is going to be a remake, and not just a simple remaster. While that would no doubt still be embraced by fans of Knights of the Old Republic, the gameplay is definitely dated and could do with an overhaul that makes the franchise feel at home on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.

We'll have to wait and see, but with COVID delaying a lot of video games, it could be a while before we see anything from this remake or get an official announcement from Aspyr Media.

Are you excited to return to the world of Knights of the Old Republic

It better be a full-on remake like Resident 2 and 3 and not just a remaster. This deserves to be played with modern day gameplay and graphics.

And they better make it canon.

I read the headline and missed the word remake. I got a little too excited for a second and thought we were getting actual movie news.

Man I really hope this comes about. Every time I consider playing it, I always feel guilty/that I'm too late to the party and drop it. And then more time passes until I consider it again, feel even more guilty, etc...

Never got a chance to really play it back in the day, so a remake would be awesome.
I just hope that it will be available for consoles and not just pc

About damn time

But it needs to be with current graphics and if it's a XSX/PS5 exclusive even better.
I've waited so long that I want it to be perfect.

I don't want it like Mass Effect.. which is nice and all but meh

Haven't played the original KOTR games, right there at the top of my list when I have free time. So keen cause all I've heard is good things.
So happy that EA doesn't have it's fingers on this no more.

I also misread the title and thought this was tv show or a movie announcement haha

I don't know what genre KOTOR is, but I'm hoping it's action/adventure or linear RPG because I'm interested in the lore, but I have little interest in most other game genres.

I suspected they may do this. People love that game. I tried to play it but the gameplay was just clunky and not fun, unfortunately.

Still a remake is exciting because I hear the story is pretty good

This is where Star Wars TV/movies should be headed. The games are so popular this seems the best direction to take the franchise.

I played it ages ago. The Baldur's Gate-style combat really took me out of the game though, but it was the foundation for Bioware to develop Mass Effect. And I've got the second one installed on my Xbox but I just can't force myself to play it.

Easily one of the best things to come from the SW franchise.
