STAR WARS: Mark Hamill Jokes About The Sequel Trilogy's Missing Reunion Between Luke Skywalker And Han Solo

The fact that Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford never got to share the screen in the Star Wars sequels is heartbreaking for fans, and the former has now poked fun at that missing reunion. Read on for details.

Mark Hamill didn't show up as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Force Awakens until the movie's final moments. Seeing as Han Solo had been killed by Kylo Ren by that point, it was clear the iconic smuggler wouldn't be sharing the screen with his old friend again. This felt like a major missed opportunity, but we still had The Last Jedi to look forward to at that point. Right?

Alas, the portrayal of Luke in Rian Johnson's movie didn't sit at all well with fans. The Jedi had become demoralised and broken down, going into hiding after he very nearly gave into temptation and killed Ben Solo before he could turn to the Dark Side and fall under Supreme Leader Snoke's influence.

That ended up happening, anyway, and Luke being portrayed as a washed up failure felt like the wrong direction to take the character in. Now, Mark Hamill has poked fun at the Star Wars sequels with a tongue-in-cheek shot at something a lot of fans were disappointed by.

Sharing a post that was meant to make fun of President Joe Biden, the legendary actor cheekily commented, "Maybe in this one they'll let me have a scene with Harrison."

Hamill has previously talked openly about being disappointed with Luke's portrayal in The Last Jedi, admitting that he told director Rian Johnson, "'I hate what you’ve done with my character.' After I got that off my chest, it was like, 'Lead me, o guru.'"

The actor has since said very little about the Star Wars sequels, likely realising it's best not to add any further fuel to the fire given how toxic the fandom can be. The Rise of Skywalker gave him a shot at redemption, though a lot of fans rejected that movie due to it being mostly awful. However, he did get to play Luke at the height of his power in both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett

Regardless, we may never be able to forgive Lucasfilm for not reuniting Luke, Han, and Leia when they had the chance...

This movie didn't deserve Hamill.

Them not uniting the original four (yes, Chewie is an OG too) together on screen is a massive missed opportunity. Maybe Ford and Hamill can unite in a non-Star Wars movie?

Also, who is this Brandon and why should be be afraid of him?

What? You mean to tell me that fans wanted to see Luke and Han reunited in some scenes?

I mean this is a massive issue with the new trilogy at large. They structured in such a way that this could never happen. Everyone wants to blame Rian Johnson, but it was JJ that put all this in motion

@Dredd97 - Yeah the people in charge just didn't care at all, about uniting all three characters.

I like TLJ and even I'm getting sick of seeing all the articles about it now 😂

But seeing as this article is about not seeing Luke, Leia and Han reunite in the Sequel Trilogy... While a lot of people say it's a missed opportunity it didn't happen in 7, the BIGGER missed opportunity is that it didn't happen in 9. The final installment of the trilogy AND the Saga, essentially the swansong to the main Star Wars narrative, and all three characters were dead at the end and appeared at various times as Force Ghosts (Han's appearance is debatable of course, could have just been Ben's imagination) - but imagine if when Han appeared to talk to Ben, Luke and Leia were with him. Imagine if at the end of the movie, all 3 of them appeared to Rey on Tatooine. Imagine how well that would've made up for them not reuniting sooner, almost like it was being saved for the final movie.

And before anyone chimes in with "HAN CAN'T BE A FORCE GHOST HE'S NOT FORCE SENSITIVE" like I said, the scene that's actually in the film kinda messes with that idea anyway and if he'd appeared with Luke and Leia then it would've arguably made more sense because they could've explained that Luke was helping Han to appear, basically helping him to temporarily return from the Netherworld of the Force.

I'd have had Luke haunting Kylo Ren up until that point in the movie basically arguing with him over his choice to turn to the Dark Side, but then after his fight with Rey, near death experience, etc Luke could've taken a more compassionate approach instead and reunited Ben with both of his dead parents so that they could talk some sense into him and give them a chance to forgive him. Of course with Carrie having sadly passed away by then they'd have to insert her using archive footage and VFX and she probably wouldn't have any dialogue, meaning it probably would've just been Han's dialogue we actually got in the movie anyway, but at least the characters would be reunited in a really emotionally satisfying way.

The sequel trilogy should have been to Star Wars what Infinity War/Endgame were to the MCU. Instead we got the equivalent to BvS/Justice League.
